La Cañada resident and volunteer Julie Battaglia, a longtime public relations professional, has been named to the board of directors for the nonprofit organization Girls on the Run Los Angeles.

Girls on the Run teaches girls ages 8 to 13 important life skills through interactive lessons and running games that build confidence while developing a lifelong appreciation for health and fitness.

Each year, the program culminates with members taking part in a 5K running event. Through its programs, Girls on the Run Los Angeles reaches nearly 1,000 girls throughout the Los Angeles County area.

As part of the 11-member board, Battaglia will further her commitment to the cause to which she’s dedicated her time and media relations experience since 2013. Previously, she served on the executive committee of the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation and was a Girl Scout leader for 13 years. Battaglia has also been an active supporter of the Hathaway-Sycamores and the YMCA Youth and Government program.
