As if by magic, the morning clouds dissipated and the bright sun came out just in time for nearly 200 women who gathered in the beautiful patio at the Thursday Club for the venerable organization’s annual fashion show benefit.

The clubhouse garden was showing off its spring finery with daffodils, tulips, roses and camellias all in bloom in perfect floral choreography.

Gracella Gibbs, chair of the event said, “We selected the theme of ‘Celebrate’ to recognize the formation of the new La Cañada Thursday Club Foundation with all proceeds from the event to go to the Foundation in support of our scholarship programs.”

Sheri Morton used her exceptional planning skills to gather 11 diverse vendors in order to create a creative shopping boutique for the guests. From fine art to precious vintage jewelry there was much to delight the fancies of shoppers.

The silent auction tables enticed ladies to bid on a myriad of items. Linda Pebsworth, Mary Ann Heeseman and Yvonne Elleri wrapped and presented the silent auction items in a beautiful way.

Jeanie Kay, Sharon Combs and Bev Albright coordinated the opportunity raffle prize sales.

Club President Gale Caswell designed the stunning black and white invitations that came in the mailbox in bright red envelopes. Juli Barry was reservation chair and welcoming guests at the door were Clay Kempson and Shon Wipple.

Thursday Club husbands had their shining moments too. Helping out were bartenders Tom Kempson and Gene Wilcott. Paul Kunhle masterfully coordinated the music.

Caterer Cynthia Brooks served a beautiful salad, roasted pork loin with risotto, and Limoncello mousse for dessert served in a stemmed glass to further carry out theme.

The tables were centered with Gibbs’ own collection of ice buckets in which she set wine bottles filled with daffodils.

A beautiful touch adorning the tables as a gift for each guest were handmade bookmarks with pressed flowers and information on back about the club’s foundation. Jane Rosell and her committee created these beautiful gifts.

The stars of the day were the models that strutted down the catwalk in fashions by Holiday Hats and Gowns in Montrose and Fresh Produce store in Pasadena. Models showing of the fashions beautifully were Pat Huber, Cindi McIntosh-Behr, Ann Wacker, Jane Owen, Marion Christiansen, Hannah Coan, Suzy Lawrence and Aida Avanesian. The models also wore creations by Owen, who is a jewelry designer.

Lisa Whan was fashion chair. Representing the stores were Karla Baer and Lilian O’Connor from Holiday Hats and Gowns and Jennifer Lozano from Fresh Produce.
