As part of their Silver Award project, the Girl Scouts of La Cañada Flintridge Troop 16691 will be creating a migration trail for Monarch butterflies by handing out milkweed plants along Flintridge Boulevard on Saturday, Nov. 15.

The troop’s “Flight of the Monarch” event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Participating stores along Foothill, from Memorial Park to La Cañada Library on Oakwood Avenue, will be giving away native milkweed plants — which serve as both a food source and habitat for caterpillars and Monarch butterflies — as well as seeds and pamphlets to customers.

Participating stores include:

  • Cakery Bakery, 1119 Foothill Blvd.
  • Min’s Kitchen, 1040 Foothill Blvd.
  • Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse, 1010 Foothill Blvd.
  • The Habit Burger Grill, 990 Town Center Drive
  • Blaze Pizza, 990 Town Center Drive
  • Panera Bread, 990 Town Center Drive
  • Hill Street Café, 1004 Foothill Blvd.
  • Chipotle Mexican Grill, 895 Foothill Blvd.
  • AT&T, 895 Foothill Blvd.
  • Jersey Mike’s Subs, 711 Foothill Blvd.
  • Gelson’s Market, 635 Foothill Blvd.

The Girl Scouts will also be hosting events at the start and end of the trail.
