The Valley Line: Lighted Window Preschool supporters are game for casino fundraiser

The stars were in perfect alignment and the moon was shining brightly when more than 130 guests gathered for the Lighted Window Preschool annual fundraiser held at the Thursday Club clubhouse late last month.
The theme for the party was Casino Royale and the gaming was in full swing when I arrived. Of course only “funny money” was being used — not the real kind. Playing games with that kind of currency makes me take more chances, which is so much fun.
Although I love to play blackjack, the favorite game in the house that night was the craps table, as people stood two-deep to watch the action.
Overseeing all the activities were Suzie Johnson, director of the preschool and event co-chairs Catherine Sabourin Sanders and Tanya Sellers. Kudos to all of them.
Also in attendance that evening and assisting in many ways were Lara Stewart, assistant director and Shannon Heberger, office manager.
When not gaming, guests turned their attention to bidding on an array of silent auction prizes like tickets to the popular “The Voice” TV show, dinner with firefighters, and darling things made by the kids such as decorated platters.
Raffle items included four Disney Park Hopper Tickets and a free month of tuition at the local preschool.
The club’s beautiful patio was also a popular gathering place with plenty of tables where people could chat about what was going on in the community and set up future play dates for their kids.
Nobody went hungry, because the buffet table was laden with fabulous food catered by Oceanview Bar and Grill in Montrose. Dessert was donated by Gio’s Baguettes & More, also located in the Montrose Village.
The tunes were being played by Mark Fortier from What a Party. He kept things moving right along. Casinos in Motion provided the gaming tables and all the personable dealers.
It was such a fun party and everyone was having a great time testing the whims of Lady Luck.
Proceeds from the event go to the school for new items, such as a new sandbox and sand and educational classroom items.
