The Valley Line: A little pizza, a little painting and a lot of fun

I think everyone is taking a deep breath, or perhaps it is a sigh of relief because La Cañada’s social scene has quieted down momentarily.

The La Cañada Jrs. filled that quiet time with a fun social gathering of 16 members on Feb. 5 at the home of Natalie Hubbard for what they called “Pizza and Painting Party.”

The goal for the evening was to paint tea towels with hearts and flowers and other designs they fancied. Leading them in instructions of the how-to-do-it was Carolyn Gmelich (of Thotshop Creatives) with bottles of fabric paint, stencils and lots of ideas. Some of the artists attending decided to chuck the stencils and create their own designs.

True to the party theme, the paint-spattered artists sipped red wine, noshed on pizza and enjoyed each other’s company. One of those attending mentioned what a great bonding night it was, and she is looking forward to the next social event.

Attending the Pizza Paint Party was Jill Chapman, president, Kyle Grimes, Brenda Gant, Lisa Foster, Alice Perez, Trish McRae, Georgina Mueller, Laura Plourde, Rimi Sirrich, Elizabeth Landswick, Gillan Frame, Christy Steward and Sarah Lowe.

On March 6, the La Cañada Juniors will be holding their major fundraising party to benefit Mending Kids of Glendale.

This year the gala’s theme is “A Night at the Troubadour,” and it will be held at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. Mark the date on your calendar. It will be fun to remember when rock was young with old discs spun by a DJ. There will be lots of games played too. The ticket price includes hors d’oeuvres, a dinner buffet, open bar, valet parking and a photo booth. Tickets are $100 and reservations can be made by calling (818) 568-6411 before Feb. 26.
