Don Jose Verdugo Chapter, DAR hosts Joe Puglia for reading from his book

Share

Valley Sun columnist and La Cañada Flintridge resident Joe Puglia recently attended a meeting of the Don José Verdugo Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, where he read a selection from his new book, “Girl With the Purple Ribbon.”

A Marine Corps veteran, Puglia drew on memories of his service during the Vietnam War to incorporate detailed descriptions of the long-running conflict into his work of fiction.

Puglia, who has a keen interest in American history, is a return speaker to the local DAR chapter’s meetings. The organization’s membership is open to women age 18 and up “who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who provided aid during the American Independence effort,” according to Elaine La Marr, a La Cañada Flintridge resident and chapter member who handles publicity for the group.
