LA Canada

La Cañada High School featured its Battle of the Bands last week every day during lunch, with students encouraged to place votes for their favorite band.

Local bands comprising students signed up to perform various types of music, including death metal, rock and hip-hop.

Performers Ian Balisy, Kyle Gosselin and Kevin DeSimone formed their band in 2003. Since then they have been on a roll, recording songs and making their band. They have had several concerts in myriad places, from Ian’s backyard to Memorial Park.

In early 2008, these students became increasingly passionate about their band, which is how it earned its name, Desolith. They consider their music to be of several genres including death metal, black metal, deathcore, and extreme metal. They have been working on an album called “In the Dominion of the Godless” and hope to release it soon.

Another band that performed very well was Mañana’s Mañana, featuring Kate Hansen, Joao Teixeira and Kinley Winnaman

Battle of the Bands has become a very popular event, as just this past Saturday they performed at Memorial Park for the fundraiser Teens Advancement for Children’s Hospital.
