CLASSES

Hula lessons — Six-week session on Wednesday nights, June 23-July 28. Andrea Strassburg will teach the hula classes at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive. Child Educational Center summer programsBeginning June 21. Ten-week exploration series (June 21-Aug. 25): Each week will focus on a different theme. This camp, for children entering grades 1-7, is offered in La Cañada and Pasadena and will included opportunities for swimming, relaxation and open-ended play time. Horse camp (July 19-23 and Aug. 9-13): For children entering grades 4-7. Children will begin and end their days in La Cañada, with the center providing transportation to and from Altadena Stables. Descanso Discovery Series (June 21-25, July 12-16 and Aug. 2-6): Physical activities and adventures in Descanso Gardens for children entering grades 2-6. Theater Camp For Children June 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ( 2 weeks).The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge is offering a theater camp for children ages 6 through 12. This will be an adventure into the world of musical theater, inviting kids to be creative and engaged in the complete process of putting on a show. Kids will learn about writing a script, acting, mime, singing, dancing, set and prop design and working as a team.

The two-week experience will culminate in a show for family and friends. No experience is necessary. The camp instructor, Joanne Voors, has been with the Community Center for several years teaching Mommy and Me Dance, Children’s Ballet and dance classes.

Space is limited and the deadline for registration is June 10.

PCC Jazz Year end Bash June 13 at 2 p.m. The Pasadena City College Studio Jazz Ensemble will be performing on June 13 at 2 p.m. in Sexson Auditorium. The event is open to the PCC community and local jazz-goers. Under the direction of PCC instructor Andrea Baker Wilkerson, the performance will feature the Studio Jazz Ensemble, Lancer Jazz Big Band, and a few very special guests. Tickets $5 for general admission; $3 for students, staff, and seniors; and free for children 12 and under.

Festival on the Green June 26, at 7:30 p.m. The California Philharmonic opens its 2010 Festival on the Green summer season at the 127-acre park in Arcadia.

Theme is “America The Beautiful,” a powerful patriotic performance featuring Rhapsody In Blue, 1812 Overture, Lincoln Portrait, Sousa Marches, Appalachian Spring with singer and actor Brian McKnight, pianist Bryan Pezzone.
