A suspect escaped with $7,281 when, for the second time in less than three months, the California Federal Bank on the southeast corner of Foothill and Commonwealth was robbed. Two weeks later the La Cañada branches of World Savings Bank and Bank of America were also robbed, prompting the mayor to ask for a stepped-up law enforcement presence within city limits.

Representatives of Church of the Lighted Window threatened to sue the city of La Cañada Flintridge if it sold the massive 437 Wurlitzer organ from the Lanterman estate on Encinas Drive, claiming such a sale was not what the Lanterman family, which left the property to the city, would have wanted.

The driver was left tied up in the emptied truck, which the thieves abandoned in South El Monte.
