Local Habitat for Humanity thanks volunteers

Share

Local residents were among those honored recently when San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity thanked 29 volunteers during an event held at the La Cañada Thursday Club.

The volunteers contributed hundreds of hours toward completing the organization’s first major urban build, 11 condominiums in Glendale and four single-family homes in Monrovia. Their support included construction, administration, fundraising and homeowner guidance.

San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, which was founded by La Cañada residents, has built 54 homes in the area in the past 20 years.

Recipients included three local faith groups represented by the Rev. Gregory Douglass and the Rev. James Anderson of Monrovia and Glendale Methodist churches, respectively, plus the Islamic Community of La Cañada Flintridge. Levent Akbarut and Nahid Ansari accepted the award on behalf of the Islamic Community.
