Stephanie Abajian, a La Cañada High School graduate and daughter of Douglas and Marie Abajian, received the Arkell Hall Award in art history from Hartwick College. The Arkell Hall Award is given to outstanding students who consistently contribute to the department of art and art history.

Grant Chin of La Cañada recently graduated from La Salle University in Philadelphia with a master’s of business administration in marketing.

Jane Rhyu, an LCHS graduate, was one of 31 students awarded the Merrill Presidential Scholarship from Cornell University. Only 1% of Cornell’s graduating class receives the award from the university’s deans.

Merrill Scholars are then asked to recognize a high school teacher who inspired their scholastic development. Rhyu chose Marina Chahine of LCHS as that teacher. Each teacher chosen is then invited to Cornell’s campus to participate in two days of events, and a one-time $4,000 scholarship is established in their name to be given to a Cornell student from LCHS or the local area.
