The new facility would replace the post office at the east end of town that was losing parking-lot space to the 210 Freeway, which was then under construction.

The superintendent of the La Cañada Elementary School District announced the schools would offer conversational Spanish courses for children in grades 2-6. The new program was sponsored by the schools’ respective PTAs, with the Berlitz Foreign Language School of Los Angeles providing the instruction and textbooks.
