Three people were killed and one seriously injured in a series of motorcycle accidents in the Angeles National Forest over the Labor Day weekend in 2000.

Martin Lewis, well known for offering many local youths their first jobs, marked his 25th anniversary of ownership of the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise in La Cañada Flintridge.


Thirty Years Ago

A faulty water heater was blamed for a blaze that heavily damaged a home and destroyed two vehicles in the 5300 block of Crown Avenue late one night in September 1980.



Forty Years Ago

Federal, state, county and local officials were on hand for a ground-breaking ceremony to start building a new post office on Foothill at Rinetti Lane. The new facility would replace the post office at the east end of town that was losing parking-lot space to the 210 Freeway, which was then under construction.



Fifty Years Ago

The superintendent of the La Cañada Elementary School District announced the schools would offer conversational Spanish courses for children in grades 2-6. The new program was sponsored by the schools’ respective PTAs, with the Berlitz Foreign Language School of Los Angeles providing the instruction and textbooks.
