With negotiations with the La Cañada Teachers Assn. approaching an impasse, the school board approved an 8% wage increase for school administrators, including 25 managerial, supervisorial and confidential employees. Sue Stinson, president of the teachers union, said this had been greeted with “considerable interest” among the rank-and-file teachers, who were seeking an 11% salary increase.

Forty Years Ago

A $5 million project to replace some 27 miles of transmission line towers from La Cañada to Sylmar was announced by Southern California Edison officials. In La Cañada, 15 towers would be installed on easements running north from Descanso Gardens to Indiana Avenue, and from there to the Gould substation in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.

Fifty Years Ago

Robert and Dorys Gollatz, directors of cotillions for social dancing, announced their 1960-61 cotillions would offer new dance steps, including the plena, a popular import from the Caribbean. The Gollatzes held their classes for local youths at the La Cañada Thursday Club.
