Wiggle, Waggle, Walk — Sept. 26, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 12th Annual Wiggle, Waggle, Walk will benefit the Pasadena Humane Society. Families, friends, and canines are welcome to participate in either the 3-mile or 1-mile walk around the Rose Bowl. Participants are requested to fundraise on behalf of the animals in the care of Pasadena Humane Society. Every $25 that is raised helps care for a domestic animal at the shelter for one day. Wine & Gourmet Food Tasting — Sept. 26, tastings 3 to 6 p.m.; live auction 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorial Park, 1201 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge. Presented for the seventh year by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada, Le Petit Vendome, La Cañada Educational Foundation, Foundation Endowment fund, La Cañada Chamber of Commerce and Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation. Oktoberfest — Oct. 2, noon to 11 p.m. The Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce stages this event along the 2300 and 2400 blocks of Honolulu Avenue in Montrose. Food, music, games and contests. Beer and wine sales start at 2 p.m. Admission is free; dinner tickets can be ordered ahead of time for $8.50 through Schreiner’s Fine Sausages and the Chamber of Commerce office. Home and Kitchen Tour — Oct. 3, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. American Society of Interior Designers Pasadena Chapter plans its 24th annual tour of area homes that have been updated by top ASID designers. The properties on the tour include a 2000 La Cañada Flintridge traditional Colonial-style home, a 1955 contemporary home in Pasadena, a San Marino French provincial style home built in 1941 and a 1971 modern version of a Craftsman-style home built in South Pasadena. Foothill Artists League Annual Exhibition — Oct. 3, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lanterman House will be holding an open house featuring art, music, history and refreshments. Local artists’ work will be featured including plein air and studio oil paintings by the Foothill Artists League. Korean Cooking Demonstration — Oct. 16, 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. The La Cañada Flintridge Public Library, 4545 N. Oakwood Drive, hosts this demonstration in conjunction with the city’s One City One Book program, which this year features the book “Honolulu” by Southern California author Alan Brennert. One City One Book Author Symposium — Oct. 17, 2:30 p.m. The school board meeting room at La Cañada Unified School District headquarters, 4490 Cornishon Ave., La Cañada, will be the venue when the city of La Cañada Flintridge’s One City One Book Committee hosts Alan Brennert, the author of this year’s selected community reading, “Honolulu.” The book is a tale of a Korean mail-order bride who escapes the bad marriage and learns to navigate her adopted city during the early years of the 20th century. This event is free.

LECTURES

Encore speakers’ program for seniors — Saturdays, Sept. 25 to Oct. 16; two sessions offered each Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Glendale Community College presents its Encore speakers’ program. Encore, coordinated by Roberta Vadman, meets at the Life Skills Building at the east end of campus. Enter the college parking lot off Mountain Avenue near the Glendale (2) Freeway.

Energy Efficiency — Sept. 25, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The La Cañada Flintridge Public Library, 4545 N. Oakwood Ave., will host a speaker from a local utility company who will discuss recent breakthroughs in energy-efficient technology and how La Cañada residents can use this information to save money and help the environment. Opera Talk — Sept. 29, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” will be discussed by a speaker from L.A. Opera in this program offered at the La Cañada Flintridge Public Library, 4545 N. Oakwood Ave. Free.

PERFORMANCES

Benefit Concert for Union Station — Oct. 2, Doors open at 5 p.m., concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Music of Bob Mintzer and the USC Big Band with special guest performers. The evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres and wine, followed by the concert. At the conclusion of the performance there will be dessert and coffee with the artists. The concert will benefit Union Station Homeless Services, assisting homeless men, women and children. Pasadena Dance Theatre “Master DanceMaker” — Sept. 25, 8 p.m. Pasadena Dance Theatre challenges three choreographers to become 2010’s “MasterDancemaker” in this event held at the Pasadena Playhouse, 39 S. El Molino Ave., Pasadena. Colin Connor, Andre Tyson and Laurence Blake will present three original works. Audiences will then vote on their favorite and the winning choreographer will take home a $500 prize.
