Paul Baribault of La Cañada Flintridge was named to the Junior National luge team.

Thirty Years Ago

A sheriff’s drug investigation, requested by the La Cañada Unified School District, culminated when deputies raided the La Cañada High School campus to arrest 22 students. All were charged with selling narcotics to undercover deputies who “enrolled” at LCHS that fall and posed as students for six weeks. The teens were immediately suspended for five days; some faced expulsion.

Forty Years Ago

The Key Club at La Cañada High School collected more than 3,000 paperback books to send to U.S. armed forces personnel serving in Vietnam and other countries.

Fifty Years Ago

Five citizens groups — from Flintridge, La Cañada’s Rancho neighborhood, Linda Vista and two areas on the east side of the Arroyo Seco — banded together to object to plans to construct a heliport near Devil’s Gate Dam. The residents involved objected to the potential for excess noise and helicopter accidents.
