CLASSES & SEMINARS: Plan Your Spring Garden — Saturday, Nov. 13, 10 a.m. Mike Brown, horticulturist, shows home gardeners how to get a jump on spring blooms. Class meets in the Maple building at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, then moves into the gardens. Subjects covered include soil preparation, raised planting beds and container gardens. Inheritance Tax Law Changes — Tuesday, Nov. 16, 10:30 a.m. Phillip Roitman, J.D., LL.M., an attorney with more than 20 years of experience specializing in all aspects of tax law, estate planning, probate and trust administration, will talk about the impact of new rules for inheritance taxes. Veterans Day Program — Thursday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m. Longtime KTLA-TV anchor and World War II veteran Stan Chambers is master of ceremonies at the 51st annual Veterans Day Program at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, 90068. Keynote speaker is Master Sgt. Kanessa Trent, public affairs sergeant major for the U.S. Forces-Afghanistan. The Golden Stars Skydiving Team will give an aerial performance and there will be a special commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War. Admission is free. A Taste of Scotland — Saturday, Nov. 13, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Pasadena Scottish Pipes and Drums, one of 71 bagpipe bands in the Western United States, offers an evening of piping, darts, whisky-tasting, food, drink, auction and raffle at the Llama Llounge, 2593 N. Native Plant Sale — Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The San Gabriel Mountains Chapter of the Califiornia Native Plant Soicety will host its “Native Plants for Foothill Gardens” annual plant sale at the Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 N. Altadena Drive, Pasadena 91107. On the following Saturday, Nov. 20, a free native-gardening workshop will be held at the same location at 3 p.m.

Fall Color Walk — Saturday, Nov. 13, 1 p.m. Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive. Horticulturist Wayne Walker leads this “walk and talk” through the gardens. Free with admission, which is $8 for adults, $6 for senior and students, $3 for children 5-12.

Thanksgiving Day at Descanso — Thursday, Nov. 25, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive. Take the family out for a stroll either before or after the big meal. Babysitting Course for Ages 11 to 15 — Saturdays, Nov. 20, Dec. 11 and Jan. 29, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Verdugo Hills Hospital Beginnings Family Education Program offers babysitting classes at the hospital, 1812 Verdugo Blvd., Glendale for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 15. The interactive course teaches infant/child CPR, basic first aid, home/auto safety, accident prevention, telephone skills, safety tips and more.
