“Rails Across Russia: St. Petersburg to the Pacific,” will be the first film shown when the 2011 Travel Adventure Series sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada kicks off Jan. 29. The event opens at 7:10 p.m. in the Flintridge Prep Auditorium, 4543 Crown Ave., La Cañada Flintridge.

The film features a rail adventure across Russia on the famous Trans-Siberian railroad. The adventure covers more than 8,500 miles from the Russian capital of Moscow to the Pacific port city of Vladivostok. The epic journey is one of the great train rides in the world.

According to Tom Passanisi, newly appointed chairman of the travel series, Kiwanis has sponsored the film adventures for the past 50 years for the enjoyment of community members. Season tickets are $40; individual performances are $8 a person.

This year, travel adventure performances consist of six programs: “The Soul of India” in February, “Japanland” in March, “Portugal and the Durto Valley” in April, “An Italian Lakes Adventure in May and “An East African Safari” in June.
