Troop 509 stays busy

Still excited from their summer stay at Catalina’s Camp Cherry Valley, La Cañada Flintridge’s Troop 509 Webelos Cub Scouts have a full schedule for the fall.

On Monday, Nov. 7, scouts interested in joining JPL Troop 509 are invited to participate in a night hike from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. In addition, an open house troop meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 5 and another hike, open to potential Troop 509ers, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11.

Troop 501 holds firewood sale

La Cañada Troop 501 will be holding its first annual firewood sale starting this Saturday from its home base at the La Cañada Congregational Church. Conveniently located next to the La Cañada Farmer’s Market in the church’s upper parking lot, the firewood sale will be happening on Saturdays in November, December and possibly beyond.

The firewood promises to be both a great value and an environmental benefit, as it comes from downed trees in Angeles National Forest. In the wake of the 2009 Station fire, Scouts have gathered, cut and split these downed trees so that they make high-quality firewood. In addition, proceeds from the sale will help the troop fund future adventure trips and community service projects.
