The Valley Line: A celebration of a wonderful float

Share

By the time you read this, 2012 will be here. Happy 2012 — may it be a good year for all of us. I’m certainly planning on this being better than last year. Yes, I do have at least five resolutions on my list. I hope to check them all off by Dec. 31, 2012.

We had a fabulous Chamber of Commerce day for the Rose Parade and game and our imposing mountain range was looking awesome on television.

“If Pigs Could Fly,” the city’s 34th fabulous float, was looking adorable as it made its way down Colorado Boulevard.

The LCF Tournament of Roses Association (LCFTRA) honored its major donors at an “under the bridge” party on December 29. The fun event was chaired by Jean Spomer, who had an expert team of committee members to help her in the many details.

Most of the past presidents were wearing their bright red jackets, which added to the holiday ambience of the evening.

As in past years, the party was held in a tent, which always provided a nice buffer from cold winds. But unlike past years, it was an extremely balmy night, which is greatly appreciated by float workers.

Donors from far and near came to celebrate this new float. They even toasted it with champagne. There were other beverages to sip, and an array of tasty hors d’oeuvres to share. People were having a great time catching up on holiday and family news as they sipped and nibbled.

Among the donor celebrants were Pat and Dick Anderson, Eremita Miranda and Larry Andreason, Judy and Walt Bakly, Randy Bartos, Sue Beatty, Cynthia and John Benton, Nancy and Larry Bergman, Ginger and Kim Caldwell, Julie Cameron and David Granish, Mary and Stan Charles, John Chaves, Doris Coates, Liz and Bob Craven, Dustin Crumb, Helaine and Lenny Cummins, Barbara and Jack Dawson, Trisch and Ron Diaz, Dee and Fraser Draper, Barbara Edwards, Richard Eldred, Vee Fasciotti, Joan and Vince Feehan, Mary Lou and Erik Fiske, Agnes and David Foos, Sharlyn French, Mary and Daryal Gant, Becky and Chuck Gelhaar, Silvia and Dan Gerstner, Toni and Mike Gillespie, Maggie and Don Graf, LuRetta Haire, Bobbie and Clyde Hemphill, Anne Hills, Jacky Hollingsworth, Sally and Mike Horner, Lyn Horstemeier and Peggy Hotaling.

Also enjoying the party were Pat and Otis Hutchins, Carol Imbriale, Danelle and Brian Jacobs, Lynn Jarvis, Betty Jones, Margaret and Wayne Kruse, Renee LaBran and Malcolm Boyd, Don Lambetch, Diane and John Landrum, Gloria and Stewart Lee, Jacob Maitless, Phyllis Manley, Barbara Marshall, Sarah and Mayf Marshall, JoAnn and Gil McCoy, Karen McIlvena, Marcy McVicker, Lynn and Bill Meyerchak, David Moffett, Ann and Bob Neilson, Kris and Mike O’Connor, Mary Odom, Catherine and Pete Palermo, Darleen and Joel Peterson, Ruth and Charlie Plowman, Ellen and Anthony Portantino, Kathleen and Henry Reichert, Betty Ryan and Fred Keenan, Clara Satterfield, Dave Spence, Jean and Don Spomer, Lynne and Joe Thompson, Julie Thurston and Dee Montgomery, Nancy Thurston, Penelope Verner, Don Voss, Bev and Bob Wallace, Margaret and Bill Watts, Marilynn and Jack Wheeler, Pam Wiedenbeck and Eleanor and Don Ziehl.
