Trails Council works on safety

Share

To augment work from the county and city, the La Cañada Trails Council, with help from community volunteers and the Arcadia Amblers, a local mountain biking club, have recently worked on trail clean-up projects around the city, including on Horse Lane, the hillside behind Flintridge Riding Club and along the Flint Canyon Trail.

The end of 2011 saw installation of an improved crosswalk on Chevy Chase with reflectors and signals, and all accessible by foot, bike or horse. To learn more about the Trails Council, or to make a donation, visit www.lcftrails.org.

Scholarship applications online

The Community Scholarship Foundation of La Cañada Flintridge has announced that its 2012 applications for scholarships are now available online at www.csflacanada.org and are due April 16. The foundation provides scholarships of $500 to $1,500 per year to local students.

The community is invited to attend the foundation’s fundraiser, a concert evening with “the Texas Tenors,” on Friday, April 20, at Lanterman Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased through www.albrooks.com or (818) 790-0419. VIP tickets of $250 include premium seating and an intimate cocktail party with the Texas Tenors on April 19 at a private residence. Concert tickets in front orchestra and rear orchestra are $75 and $50, respectively.

Thursday Club plans benefit

The annual Spring Benefit and Fashion Show being planned by the La Cañada Thursday Club for March 15 will carry the theme, “There’s No Place Like Home.” The event will return to the Woodleigh Lane clubhouse after several years off-site.

“I have fond memories of attending this fashion show with my mother when it was held at the club,” said Sherri Morton, event chair. “It seems fitting to be chairing the event that brings the fashion show and luncheon back home to the Thursday Club.”

A collection of spring fashions from retailer Draper’s and Damon’s will be shown. The luncheon menu will take guests back in time to 1912, the year of the club’s founding by Elizabeth Knight. Members and their guests will be able to shop for jewelry, art, literature and home accessories.

Proceeds from the Spring Benefit are awarded to the club’s scholarship fund for deserving local high school seniors, and to its philanthropies.
