Shoplifting: 600 block of Foothill Boulevard, La Cañada. A store employee monitoring activity via closed circuit TV surveillance noticed a white male and his white female companion enter the store and begin gathering large quantities of beauty products, bedding and clothing, and placing them in a shopping cart as well as in a department store mesh bag. Shortly after they collected the items, the man walked out of the store without any items in his hands. The woman stood in line at the cashier stand, then entered a bank card as if to pay for the goods. When the card was immediately declined she scooped up all the goods and ran out of the store. The employee tried to catch up with her on foot but could not. A witness saw the woman get into a Volkswagen Jetta with her male companion behind the wheel. Both men were described as having black hair, but no further descriptions were given. A responding sheriff’s deputy initiated a crime broadcast, and the Hyundai was stopped by another deputy, but because the suspect’s driver’s license photo could not be identified by the store employee as being of the same man, he was released.
