The nomination period has opened for the annual Les Tupper Awards recognizing exceptional community service, according to the La Cañada Flintridge Coordinating Council, which oversees the program. Nominations must be submitted online, emailed or postmarked by March 11.

The awards, a community tradition since 1969, are spread over four categories: Individual, Student, Organization and Special service awards. Nominees must demonstrate “long-term and broad-based” service to the La Cañada Flintridge community. Honorees selected for the award will also show “leadership qualities and service that brings positive recognition to our community,” according to the Coordinating Council.

To learn more about the awards, or to submit a nomination, visit lcfcc.net. Nomination forms can also be found at City Hall, the LCF Chamber of Commerce office and local high schools beginning Feb. 7.

The awards are named in memory of Les Tupper, an attorney who passed away in 1968 while serving a term as president of the La Cañada school board. Tupper had been heavily involved in civic affairs since moving with his family to the town in 1954, active in the local chamber of commerce, the Coordinating Council, the PTA (in which he was an honorary life member) and his church.

This year’s Les Tupper awardees will be honored at an evening ceremony planned for Wednesday, April 22, in von Kármán Auditorium at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
