Twenty-three “Terrific Kids,” all of them sixth-grade students in the La Cañada Unified School District, were feted by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada during a Jan. 29 luncheon in Van de Kamp Hall at Descanso Gardens.

Palm Crest Elementary students recognized that day were Stella Dziak, Ella Hwang, Zane Kalmus-Kunde, Aaron Kang, Madison Lee, Elizabeth Pak, Coday Pap and Lev Taira.

Representing La Cañada Elementary were Sam Baker, Arthur Cervantes, Alex Haber, Aleena Rios, Luke Talbert,Tyler Trimble and Johanna Woo. Paradise Canyon honorees were Clayton Hazelwood, Miles Jamison, Thalia Luk, Selena Maimone, Max Man, Alexis Oh, Audrey Ostenson and Niam Taylor.

The students are selected as “Terrific Kids” for qualities such as “kindness, a positive attitude and good citizenship,” according to the Kiwanis Club news release. They’re first notified of winning the honor during spirit rallies at their respective schools. Then, they’re invited to a Kiwanis luncheon to be introduced to the club’s members.

“Recognizing the chosen sixth-graders today is a true honor,” Terrific Kids coordinator Nancy Leininger told the assembled luncheon guests. “In today’s world it is not always easy to do the right thing and make wise decisions most of the time. Showing integrity and wisdom are gifted skills. These attributes truly are building the foundation of your future success.”
