The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada announced Monday it has opened the nominating period for the annual La Cañadan of the Year Award.

Members of the public are invited to honor an individual, or a couple, who demonstrate commitment to the community through exemplary volunteer work.

Last year’s honoree was Vicki Schwartz, who was chosen for the award for lending her hand to many causes over the years and for founding the La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities Assn.

Nominations must be postmarked or emailed no later than Tuesday, March 3 to be considered. Nomination forms can be found at the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Assn. office located in City Hall and at the La Cañada Flintridge Library, 4545 Oakwood Ave.

Completed forms should be mailed to the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada, La Cañadan of the Year, P.O. Box 33, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91012; or emailed to Michael Freed, Nominating Committee chairperson at freedabet@aol.com. The new La Cañadan of the Year will be announced in late March and honored at a special Kiwanis luncheon this spring.
