Foothill Municipal Water District customers close to meeting mandate

Share

Foothill Municipal Water District customers used 33% less water last month than they did in October 2013, with cumulative conservation rates measured since state-mandated reductions took effect in June also standing at 33%, according to an agency release issued Monday.

FMWD, which provides imported water to agencies serving La Cañada Flintridge properties, and some residents in neighboring communities, announced in the release the monthly and cumulative savings for the seven retail agencies in its service area.

Valley Water Co. customers, for example, reduced October water use by 29% compared to 2013 and have a cumulative savings of 32%, just shy of the agency’s 36% mandate.

The much smaller La Cañada Irrigation District, required simply to comply with Gov. Jerry Brown’s statewide 25% reduction, used 40% less water compared to the 2013 reporting period for a cumulative savings of 35%.

“We are proud of our customers for conserving 40% during this critical drought and thank them for their efforts,” District General Manager Doug Caister stated in the release. “We ask for continued conservation so that state-mandated reduction targets can continue to be met.”
