April 4

Grand theft, bicycle: 2 Sport Chalet Drive. A Sport Chalet employee reported that at about 1:40 p.m. a man expressed interest in buying a Diamond Back brand bicycle. He test rode it, then told the employee a part was missing. The employee went upstairs to find a replacement for the item. When he returned minutes later, the man and the bike were gone. Surveillance video shows the suspect walking the bicycle out of the store. He was described as white, about 55 years old, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds and with a shaved head. He was wearing a white polo shirt and baggy blue jeans, and was carrying a green backpack.

Burglary: St. Bede Church, 215 Foothill Blvd. It was reported that nine E-Z UP canopies, all with blue covers and white frames, were missing from the church’s locked storage container, which had been broken into. Surveillance video showed that at 4:45 a.m. on March 28, a white male was pulling a single E-Z UP across the church property. It is unknown when the remaining eight were stolen, but the theft was discovered at about noon on April 4, when the padlock to the storage container was found to have been damaged by someone using a bolt cutter.

Burglary: 4100 block of Woodleigh Lane. A man reported that his wife returned from her customary morning walk at about 10:30 a.m. April 5 and heard noises upstairs in their house. Thinking it might be her husband creating the noises, she called out to him. There was no reply, but she then heard the front door slam shut. A few minutes later she went upstairs to find a guest bedroom, and the master bedroom had been ransacked. At first, she thought her husband had been rearranging things, so she called him on the phone. He said it was not he who had been in the house. He returned home and called the sheriff’s station. A responding deputy discovered a rear window in the dining room had been shattered. The husband said that three men’s watches — two Patek Philippes and the other a Rolex — had been taken. He said his wife would need to inventory her jewelry to determine what, if any, of her items had also been stolen.

Shoplifting: 2 Sport Chalet Drive. A Sport Chalet manager reported that some store sales associates told him they’d heard a loud noise coming from the front area and looked to see a Latino man, wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and sunglasses dash out of the store carrying an armload of L.A. Dodgers jerseys. At least 25 jerseys had been on display near the entrance and they were all believed to have been taken by the man. The suspect was seen throwing the items into a silver Honda that had been parked facing west, then getting into the driver’s seat and driving off toward Angeles Crest Highway. The store manager told a deputy he believed the suspect was the same person who had committed a similar theft in Porter Ranch on March 30.

Grand theft: 4800 block Ocean View Boulevard. A woman who is bedridden with a terminal illness and cared for by case workers reported that she invited her daughter to her home on March 30 so she could give her some jewelry. They discovered then that several pieces had been taken from atop the woman’s dresser inside her master closet. The victim was last able to walk on Jan. 10, and that’s when she last saw them. Missing are two gold rings, both with stones; three pairs of earrings, all set with diamonds; and two gold watches. The woman said that since she’s become bedridden, only her son and her caregivers, provided by an agency, have had access to her home.

April 7

Grand theft, firearms: 1200 block of Flintridge Avenue. A man reported that between 9:30 p.m. April 6 and 9 a.m. April 7, someone entered two unlocked vehicles that had been left parked in his driveway, behind a locked gate, and stole a gun from each of them. He made the discovery when he went to his car and found the driver’s door slightly ajar. Looking inside, he realized his Colt .357 had been taken. The other car’s driver’s side door was also ajar and missing from it was a Smith & Wesson .38 special revolver. The victim could supply the serial number on the latter, but did not know the serial number on the Colt, nor was it registered.

April 8

Petty theft: 3900 block of Robin Hill Road. A woman said that sometime between 9 p.m. April 6 and 8:30 a.m. April 7, someone had entered her unlocked car, which had been left in her driveway overnight. She discovered the next morning that the car door was slightly ajar and the interior had been ransacked. She thought nothing was missing until she noticed a familiar carton was on the street across from her house. She picked it up and realized it was a package of tea lights she’d ordered on eBay. The contents were still intact.

Burglary, residential: 700 block of St. Katherine Drive. A man reported that shortly after 10 p.m. he and his wife returned to the house after having left it at about 5 p.m. As they arrived, the burglar alarm sounded and they saw three males running from behind his house. All three had hoods pulled over their heads and faces. They entered a white vehicle and drove out of view. Drawers in the master bedroom were found open, but the victims believed nothing was missing.

April 10

Burglary, residential: 600 block of Durwood Drive. A man reported that at about 5:15 a.m. he investigated outdoors after his dog began barking incessantly. He went to the back of the property to check his garage, which had been left unlocked. He attempted to open the rear door to the garage but felt resistance from the other side. He heard movement and then was able to open the door. Inside stood a man, about 25 years old, 6 feet tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The suspect was wearing a headlamp, blue T-shirt with white lettering, and dark pants. After the homeowner asked what he was doing there, he made a brief reply then exited the garage, walked toward the street and out of view. Nothing appeared to have been taken.

April 11

Burglary, residential: 900 block of Regent Park Drive. A man reported that someone had burglarized his home sometime between 9:50 a.m. and noon. A responding deputy found that bedrooms, the living room and closets had been ransacked. The victim said he believed nothing had been taken. Entry was determined to have been made via a rear sliding-glass door that had been smashed.
