William Dewey

July 9, 1918-April 25, 2004 William A. “Bill” Dewey passed away on April 25 from Parkinson’s disease at age 85. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Born in Kansas, he came to Glendale at an early age, going through the Glendale public school system. His love of flying led him in 1940 to sign up for the Civilian Pilot Training program. He served his country for six years as an Air Force major and pilot, seeing extensive air combat in World War II in North Africa and Italy.
Bill and wife Ardie have lived in La Cañada for 52 years of their 60 years of marriage, raising their family here. His entire career was in automotive sales - 23 years with Bob Smith in Hollywood, then opening Foothill Volkswagen in 1969, which he owned and operated for 25 years, with his son, Jeff. During those years, he was active in Kiwanis, serving as club president in 1979-80.
His interests were many and varied, including golf and woodworking. He crafted furniture for his home as well as for members of his extended family.
In addition to his wife, Ardie, Bill leaves son Jeff (Teresa) Dewey and daughter Ginny (Albert) Kelly. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Greg Dewey, Tracy (Ken) Corroon, Michelle (Eric) Nickle, Garrett (Kelly Ann) Kelley and Shannon Kelley. He also leaves seven great-grandchildren.
