FSHA presents 103 graduating seniors

With a dozen red roses in hand, each of the 103 seniors processed onto Senior Lawn for Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy’s 72nd graduation ceremony on June 6.
Salutatorian Kelli Haggstrom of Pasadena, who will attend Boston College, and Valedictorian Diana Babikian of Glendale, who will attend Stanford University, remembered classmate Ashley Burmingham in their speeches. Each graduate wore an angel pin on her dress to remember Ashley, who died of brain cancer on her 17th birthday, Jan. 22, 2003. School officials presented an honorary diploma and Sacred Heart Medal to Ashley’s mother and grandmother.
ASB President Kate La Bonge of Glendale was given the Venitas Award, the highest honor given to a Sacred Heart graduate. The General Excellence Award was given to Babikian, while scholarship medals were awarded to Andrea Anjomshoaa, Aileen Hui, Jennifer Iwata, Andrea Lovano and KC Stumbaugh.
Other honors given included the Siena Award to Lovano; the Pro Deo et Patna Award to Megan Clark; the Tolog Award to Paige Kenny, the Visual and Performing Arts Award to Er-Ti Chen and Katie Myer, and the award for Significant Achievement in English by an International Student to Jessica Huh. Leadership Medals were given to Whitney Davis, Haggstrom and La Bonge. Service Medals went to Jeanette Garcia, Mira Kasliwal, Sarah Maxwell and Noel Peterson.
The Bank of America Awards went to Samantha Wallschlaeger for Fine Arts, Haggstrom for Liberal Arts and Babikian for Science and Mathematics.
Showcasing the talents of the school was the vocal technique and ensemble classes which performed “Laudate Dominum” from Solemn Vespers by W.A. Motzart, with Myer as a soloist and “Bradenburg Concerto # 3” By J.S. Bach.
