Seaman Courtney La Marr receives special commendation

Courtney La Marr, Cryptologic Technician Collection Seaman in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Kunia, Hawaii, recently received a letter of commendation and an award from her superiors.

The commendation read: “To Cryptologic Technician Collection Seaman, Courtney L. La Marr, United States Navy, for services set forth in the following: For outstanding performance of duty which led to her selection as the Bluejacket of the Quarter, Second Quarter, 2004 at Naval Security Group Activity Kunia, Hawaii. Seaman La Marr demonstrated outstanding leadership, technical expertise and exceptional initiative while providing support to Pacific warfighters and national decision makers. Her commitment to the mission and personal contributions were an inspiration to all. Seaman La Marr’s superb performance, steadfast professionalism, and loyal dedication to duty reflected great credit upon herself, the Naval Security Group, and the United States Navy.”

La Marr went through three different review boards before she was presented with the award. She is an E-3 and is studying for her Petty Officer rank. She has been in the Navy for two years.

She is a 2000 graduate of La Cañada High School. She completed one year at the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico as an art major when she made the commitment to serve her country. She said the catalyst for her decision was the terrorist attacks on New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon on Sept. 11.

After her boot camp in Illinois, Seaman La Marr went to Pensacola, Fla. where she trained as an intelligence data collection specialist. Kunia, Hawaii is her first duty station.
