Mayfield Senior School's Visual Arts Conservatory Exhibits at The Armory Center for the Arts

Pasadena, December 27, 2004: Mayfield Senior School’s Visual Arts Conservatory students will participate in the city-wide event “The Tender Land: Pasadena Festival of Art, History, Music and Science” by exhibiting their work at The Armory Center for the Arts, 145 N. Raymond Avenue, Pasadena. The exhibit runs from January 8th - 26th; the exhibit opening will be held on January 8th from 2 - 4 pm in the Armory Mezzanine Gallery.

The thirty students, ages 14-18, have been working on acrylic paintings, consisting of several canvas panels, which portray images of nature and the human relationship to it. They have chosen images that are local in context to emphasize their own immediate man/nature environmental relationship. “There is a huge diversity of ideas and personal style in this exhibit; it’s very intelligent artwork,” commented Nancy Wall, visual arts teacher and Director of the Conservatory for the Arts.

At Mayfield, a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for young women grades 9-12, “Active pursuit of the arts is an integral part of our school’s philosophy to educate the whole child, “ says Head of School Rita McBride. Each of Mayfield’s 300 students is required to take classes in the visual or performing arts, but the student who wishes to pursue more serious training can apply for Mayfield’s Conservatory for the Arts. The Conservatory is a program for the study of advanced arts techniques, skills and expression in the areas of dance, theatre, visual arts and vocal music.
