Marquez, Strub, Samaniego Triumph in Prep League Finals

Bianca Marquez and Beth Strub each won an event and took a second place in the Mission League girls swimming finals for Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy on May 4 at Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Park.

Marquez took first in the 200 freestyle (1:57.34) and second in the 100 butterfly (1:00.98). Teammate Strub placed first in the 500 freestyle and came in second in the 200 freestyle (1:58.53).

In team events, the Tologs placed second in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.14) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:53.85).

In the league preliminaries held on May 2 at Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Park, Strub won her heat in two events, the 200 freestyle (2:00.50) and the 500 freestyle (5:22.36).

Marquez came in second in her heats in the 200 freestyle (2:01.02) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.83).

Strub and Marquez joined Chelsea Nugent and Jessica Jaco in coming in second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.97) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:56.82).

Sacred Heart’s Marisa Samaniego won her fourth straight Mission League diving championship on May 4 at Harvard-Westlake Middle School.

Samaniego scored 527 points to capture the crown. She participated in the CIF Southern Section Division I competition on Tuesday, and Marquez and Strub competed in the Division I preliminaries at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach yesterday (Wednesday), but results were not available at press time.
