Renaissance Academy Lends a Helping Hand

Share

Renaissance Academy students participated again this year with their Thanksgiving Food Drive. Each year, Renaissance contacts Manny Velazquez, director of Youth Development at Positive Alternatives for Youth in Panorama City for names of families that need assistance.

PAY is an organization that serves approximately 11,000 residents and collaborates with more than 40 community agencies and schools throughout the San Fernando Valley. This year RA students collected enough food to put together full Thanksgiving dinners for three families who need an extra helping hand. Food items that made up a delicious dinner were listed, and each student brought in a contribution. To add a special touch, the students decided each family should get a floral centerpiece to make the dinner festive.

The students began a Christmas Toy Drive on Nov. 28.

Renaissance students are also involved in helping youths by delivering free tutoring at the Roger Barkley Community Center in La Cañada Flintridge every Wednesday afternoon. Call 952-3055 for more information or visit their website at renaissanceacademy.com.
