Sacramento State men’s soccer freshman defender Jeff Buddenbohn was named co-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Newcomer of the Year, it was announced by the conference last Friday.

In addition, Buddenbohn received all-MPSF honorable mention honors.

The Hornets completed their best season (9-7-2) since 1992, including the posting of four shutouts, a feat not reached since 1995. The 2005 group of men’s soccer recruits, considered the best in program history, included Buddenbohn, the program’s first NSCAA High School All-American.

Buddenbohn, in his first year out of St. Francis High in La Cañada Flintridge, made an immediate impact on the Hornets’ back line, starting 16 of 17 matches. A dangerous threat in the air, the 6-foot-4 Buddenbohn, picked up his first assist of the season, setting up Eliot Ricks-Chambers’ goal against San Jose State.
