Prep Boys’ Cross Country Takes Second at State; Girls Are Fifth

The Flintridge Prep boys’ varsity cross country team, which has won the state championship four times previously, didn’t add to that total last Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.

The Rebels finished second (125 points) behind Woodcrest Christian (48 points --low score wins) in the CIF State Cross Country Championship’s Division V race. The girls’ team finished fifth in their competition.

The previous week, the girls’ squad had won the CIF--SS Division V Team Championship at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut while the boys’ team captured second behind Woodcrest Christian.

Senior Tom Adams was the top finisher for the boy’s team, taking fifth place with a time of 16:31. Others who finished included junior James Woolley who crossed the finish line in 21st place with a time of 17:22 and senior Nik Miller who came in 30th place with a time of 17:37. Senior Ray Weitkamp also clocked a time of 17:48.

The girls’ team accumulated 143 points, compared to winner Mt. Shasta which finished with 56 points.

The Rebels were led by senior Ciara Gonzales who came in 16th place with a time of 20:09.
