VHH Renewed as Training Site For Heart Assoc. CPR Courses

Verdugo Hills Hospital successfully completed a rigorous site review and course monitoring evaluation by the American Heart Association to continue as the only designated CPR training site in the area.

The local hospital scored 100 percent on the course evaluation and 98 percent on site review. As an official training site, all CPR courses taught at Verdugo Hills Hospital use the curriculum of and are endorsed by the American Heart Association.

A variety of CPR courses for community members as well as professional healthcare providers and hospital employees are offered at Verdugo Hills Hospital. Below is a schedule of courses for first quarter 2006:

Family and Friends Infant/Child CPR

Jan. 14, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Jan. 31, 6 to 9 p.m.

Feb. 11, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Feb. 28, 6 to 9 p.m.

March 18, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

March 28, 6 to 9 p.m.

Heartsaver CPR

Jan. 18, 6 to 10 p.m.

Feb. 15, 8 a.m. to noon

March 15, 6 to 10 p.m.

Healthcare Provider (physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers)

Jan. 25, 8 a.m. -- noon

Feb. 22, 6 to 10 p.m.

March 23, 8 a.m. -- noon

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requires that all hospital patient care staff have an American Heart Association CPR certification.

“Not only does this enable us to train our own employees, but we offer easily accessible courses to the community and other healthcare professionals right here at Verdugo Hills Hospital,” said Rebecca Fletcher, coordinator of the training center for Verdugo Hills Hospital. “We feel confident that everyone taking one of the CPR courses here leaves the class knowing what to do in a cardiac emergency.”
