Fourteen Les Fleurettes Will Bow to Society on Dec. 30
The La Cañada Thursday Club will present 14 lovely Les Fleurettes debutantes at the 49th annual “Bal Blanc de Noel” on Dec. 30 in the Bunker Hill Ballroom at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The event is the culmination of 16 months of required social and community service, as well as lessons on etiquette and personal development for the Les Fleurettes provisionals.
Sherry Kirchheimer is the group’s provisional chairman. Janice Hing and Denise Greenawalt are co-chairmen of the
Bal Blanc de Noel.
Anita Torres, Thursday Club president, will present the traditional camellia charm as a gift from the Club to each debutante during the ceremony. The presenter for the evening will be Anthony Portantino, mayor of La Cañada Flintridge. Following the presentation, the debutantes will dance the traditional first waltz with their fathers.
“We are so very pleased with the fourteen young ladies who will be presented next week,” said Torres, Thursday Club president. “They have been working together over the past eighteen months in anticipation of this event.
“Each young woman has performed hours of social and community service, and has received cultural education and personal development instruction,” she said.
Les Fleurettes provisionals being presented on Dec. 30 are Nidah Ahmed, Kathryn Caswell, Lauren Deutsch, Dana Follis, Christina Geyer, Shannon Guerrero, Noelle Kenny, Meredith Kirchheimer, Hannah Minter, Victoria Pittson, Katherine Prendergast, Samantha Silliman, Allison Terry and Kelsey Tudor.
During their time as provisionals, the teens have devoted hours to social and community service, cultural development and personal development. They volunteered with organizations and institutions such as Pasadena Union Station, Habitat for Humanity and the Sycamores Resource Center, as well as participated in the Arthritis Walk.
They also helped serve during the major donor event for the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation, were hostesses at the 2004 Bal Blanc de Noel, assisted with the LCF Tournament of Roses Lunch, helped decorate the city’s Rose Parade float, participated in the LCF Chamber of Commerce Fiesta Days parade, volunteered at Descanso Gardens’ S.E.E.D.S. dinner gala, ushered at Towne Singers concerts, compiled research on the Thursday Club Historical Project, prepared food and served as hostesses for the Club’s annual Christmas Tea with Santa.
The girls enhanced their cultural experiences by attending a production of “Movin’ On” at the Pantages Theater, “The Nutcracker” at the Alex Theatre, “A School For Wives” at A Noise Within and Towne Singers concerts at Lanterman Auditorium.
Their personal development education included modeling and hair/makeup lessons, a presentation by Linda Taix Workout Studio on the importance of exercise, and waltz lessons with their presentation escorts and fathers.
“The Thursday Club developed this program through the years so that members’ daughters, granddaughters and nieces who participate will grow in experience and make lasting friendships,” said Torres. “That is how it was for our daughter, Rachel. I look forward to being on stage next week to present the Club’s traditional camellia charm to these young ladies.”
