Sacred Heart Tops Prep, 3-1, in Varsity Soccer

Two second half goals helped the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy varsity soccer team defeat visiting Flintridge Prep, 3-1, in a nonleague match last Saturday.

The Tologs, who upped their overall record to 5-0, participated in the Big Toe Holiday Soccer Festival on Monday and Tuesday, but no results were available at press time.

Sacred Heart will host its alumni game today (Thursday) and will participate in the San Gorgonio High Tournament next Monday through Wednesday.

In the Prep match, both teams scored a goal in the first half of play. The Tologs shut out the Rebels in the second half while scoring two more goals.

Sacred Heart’s goals were by Carter Cettese and Carly Crowder, with assists by Bianca Garoian, who also scored the third goal with an assist by Pip Harragan and Linzee Luper. Sara Hollar scored an unassisted goal for Prep.

Sacred Heart goalie Briana Hodge had two saves while Prep’s goalie Ayana Sumiyasu made 13 saves. Sacred Heart had 28 shots on goal while Prep had three.

In an earlier nonleague match on Dec. 14, Sacred Heart edged host Los Angeles Marymount, 2-1.

The Tologs scored the only goal in the first half of play while both teams hit the net once apiece in the second half.

Garoian scored a goal with an assist by Heather Riley and Luper and Lauren Bustos scored the other goal for Sacred Heart, unassisted.

Hodge had four saves for the Tologs. Sacred Heart had 16 shots on goal while Marymount had eight.
