LC Boys’ Varsity Soccer Loses to Prep in Own Tourney

Flintridge Prep defeated the La Cañada boys’ varsity soccer team, 2-1, in the first round of the La Cañada Tournament on Dec. 13.

La Cañada, which fell to 5-4, hosted the La Cañada Tournament through last Friday and also participated in the Riverside Poly Tournament last Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. No results were available at press time.

The Spartans will not play again until Jan. 5, when they will travel to Glendale for a nonleague match at 3:15 p.m.

Prep’s Isaac Jabola-Carolus scored both goals for the Rebels. Evan ElSaden hit the net for the only score for La Cañada.

Prep had four shot on goal while La Cañada had nine.

La Cañada was shut out, 1-0, by Sylmar in the championship match of the 14th annual Ralph Brandt Tournament at St. Francis High on Dec. 12.

Sylmar scored a goal in the first minute of play and held on to beat the Spartans for the title.

La Cañada played Westlake to a 1-1 tie in the semifinals of the Brandt Tournament at Occidental College on Dec. 10.

However, the Spartans were awarded the match because they had more penalty kicks, 5-3, than Westlake.

Luke Rhee, ElSaden, Hakop Avesyan, Dominic Baiocco and Jamal Akbarut all had penalty kicks for La Cañada.
