LC Girls’ Varsity Water Polo Pounds Glendale, 13-4

The La Cañada High girls’ varsity water polo team evened its overall record to 4-4 with a 13-4 nonleague victory over visiting Glendale on Dec. 14.

The Spartans participated in the San Clemente Tournament last Friday and Saturday and traveled to Cerritos for a nonleague contest on Tuesday. No results were available at press time.

La Cañada will not play again until Jan. 10 when it opens Rio Hondo League play against visiting San Marino.

The Spartans only led the Nitros 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, but scored nine unanswered goals to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Kiriana Scott had a match-high six goals. Jackie Snyder followed with four goals. Fionna Dobson added two goals and Molly Phillips scored the final goal.

La Cañada goalie Christine Cato made six saves. The Spartans had 29 shots on goal while Glendale had 16.

Earlier, the Spartans defeated visiting Arcadia 11-1 in a nonleague match on Dec. 13.

Against the Apaches, the Spartans led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, 6-1 at the half and 9-1 after three quarters.

Scott and Snyder led La Cañada with three goals each. Molly Gray added two goals and scoring once each were Dobson, Berit Kaesler and Trisia Kato.

Spartans’ goalie Cato made seven saves. La Cañada had 27 shots on goal while Arcadia had 19.
