LC Girls’ Varsity Basketball Gets Easy 47-25 Win Over Upland

Participating in the Arroyo High Tournament, the La Cañada girls’ varsity basketball team handily defeated Upland, 47-25, last Saturday to improve to 7-2 for the season.

The Spartans finished tournament play on Monday with a game against Arroyo. Results were not available at press time.

La Cañada will next compete in the Glendora High Tournament next Tuesday through Friday.

Emily Ballard led the Spartans with 12 points. Raeanne Butts, Jessica Lew and Emmilee Ringelberg followed with eight points each.

Monica An contributed five points and scoring two points apiece were Stephanie Anderson, Diana Kim and Caitlin Rohan. Lew hit two 3-point baskets while An had one.

Leading the Spartans with 10 rebounds each were Ballard who also had two assists, one steal and three blocked shots and Butts who added two assists and three steals.

Ringelberg chipped in eight rebounds. Rohan finished with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Lew had five rebounds, and one assist and Kim had three rebounds.

Contributing one rebound apiece were An who had two assists and two steals, and Kristine Futalan, Sierra Prescott and Lauren Tsou.

In an earlier tournament contest last Thursday, the Spartans knocked out Bell Gardens, 47-28.

Bell Gardens actually led 8-6 after the first quarter, but La Cañada held the Lancers to no points in the second quarter to take a 23-8 lead at halftime. Bell Gardens cut the Spartans advantage to 32-22 in the third quarter, but La Cañada came back strong in the fourth quarter to finish off Bell Gardens.

Tsou topped the team with nine points. Rohan and Ballard followed with eight points apiece. Lew was next with five points and Ringelberg and An scored four points each.

Prescott had three points and scoring two points apiece were Butts, Kim and Anderson.
