The entire community is invited to hear John W. (Jack) Welch speak on New Year’s Day, Sunday, Jan. 1, at 6 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1830 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge.
Welch will discuss the parable of the Good Samaritan. The savior explained to his disciples that there are different levels of understanding of his parables depending on their degree of spirituality. The hidden meaning of the sower and of the wheat and the tares, but what about the Good Samaritan? People understand about rendering service to one another in times of distress and to serve spontaneously as benevolent volunteers. This evening all are invited to start the new year by seeing and hearing how early Christians looked upon this story. The special meaning was told and retold in the stained glass windows of medieval churches. Were there deeper insights then and how may we perceive this fuller meaning in our day?
