The holiday season was brought to life in December at La Cañada High School when the “Sounds of the Seasons” Combined Orchestra and Band Concert performed under the direction of Susan Hamre-Addison. Connie Speltz was strings coach, Walt Foreman was assistant band director and Leif Albaugh was student teacher.

They led the more than 120 LCHS music students at the concert. The Symphony Orchestra opened the evening with “Polovisian Dances,” by Borodin followed by the Chamber Orchestra performing “Summer” by Vivaldi and “Canon” by Purcell. The Concert Band stepped up the beat with Folk Song Suite, while the Brass Quintet kept up the pace with “Ding Dong Merrily on High.” A high light of the evening was a performance by the Freshman Quintet Watermelon Men who gave a whimsical rendition of “The Grinch.” The Symphonic Band performed the “Carmen Suite”, followed by the finale by the Symphonic Orchestra with “Marche Slav” and “A Christmas Festival.”
