Suzanna Yu, a student at La Cañada High School, participated in a World Horizons International community service trip to Palmares, Costa Rica during July 2005. As a member of a group of 12 students, Yu contributed approximately 100 hours of service to the village.

While living in Palmares for four weeks, service included setting up and running day camp activities for young children, establishing a garden at a local school and helping to paint the school building. World Horizons International provided the materials for these projects.

On the weekends, students explored areas of Costa Rica such as rain forests, local markets and coastal areas.

Established in 1986, World Horizons organizes programs to Fiji, Iceland, Mexico, Dominica, Bulgaria, Massachusetts, CA., and Utah in addition to Costa Rica. The focus of the trips is the community service, cultural immersion and language development. The programs are open to high school students aged 14 to 18. Some scholarships are available.
