Benefit Performance For The YMCA

Performance will be at Crescenta-Cañada YMCA Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.Lineage Dance, a professional dance company based in Pasadena, tours nationally each year raising tens of thousands of dollars for charitable causes. This February the company performs right here at home when they appear at the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA Feb.11, at 2 p.m. All proceeds from the performance will benefit the capital campaign of the YMCA.

The performance features new choreography by artistic director Hilary Thomas in an informal setting and is suitable for all ages. This style of contemporary dance incorporates the grace of ballet with the athleticism and physicality of modern dance.

The director of the YMCA’s Yoga program, Anne Platt, says, “If you haven’t had an opportunity to see Lineage Dance, you are in for a big treat.”

Many of the Lineage Dancers are connected to this community. YMCA members know Hilary as the popular cardio-kickboxing teacher. Another dance company member, Rebecca Levy, teaches hip hop at the Y. Hilary Thomas and company member Caterina Mercante-Zim both teach at Flintridge Preparatory School. Company member Peggy Burt is a Palm Crest Elementary mom.

Lineage Dance was created by Hilary Thomas to raise money for various organizations throughout the community, as well as to make the arts accessible to audiences of all demographic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The company works under the auspices of the Pasadena Arts Council. Thomas has been noted as a top choreographer by the Beverly Hills Outlook for 2004 and 2005. The Los Angeles Times has praised Lineage for its “soulful femininity”.

This special event is planned for Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Crescenta Cañada YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd, La Cañada.

Tickets are available now at the Crescenta-Canada YMCA membership desk for $4, or at the door.
