Andrew Beck, a star player on Flintridge Prep’s boys’ varsity basketball team, is one of 80 Southern California high school students who have been nominated for the 2006 McDonald’s All-American High School Basketball Team.

The 80 students are among the top 1,500 male and 1,000 female prep basketball players from throughout the nation who have received the nominations for excelling both on and off the basketball court.

From the 2,500 nominees, selected by the McDonald’s All-American Basketball Team Selection Committee, 24 finalists will be chosen for positions on either the men’s or women’s 2006 McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Team.

This year, the McDonald’s All-American Boys Game will be played at San Diego State University’s Cox Arena on March 29. The contest will be telecast live on ESPN at 7 p.m. The girls’ game will be broadcast later on ESPN2 on April 6 at noon.

Proceeds from the games will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. Since the first game was played 29 years ago, nearly $5 million has been raised for the RMHC.
