You Should be Dancing at The Disco Ball

March 25th black-tie gala is set to earn ‘More, More, More’ for LCF Educational Foundation.It’s going to be a Boogie Wonderland at The Disco Ball, the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation’s annual black-tie fundraiser set for March 25 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.

More than 750 of our town’s most active school supporters will have a Celebration as they dance under the mirror ball and raise More, More, More for La Cañada’s schools.

“Invitations were just mailed and we’re getting a fabulous response. So many local families and businesses want to be a part of this event that we’ve already sold a lot of our available seating,” says The Disco Ball Co-Chair Vicki Schwartz.

Be Kool and Join the Gang

“If you’ve never been to an Educational Foundation Gala before, this is the one to catch,” adds Gala Co-Chair Amy Heidemann. “It’s still black-tie, but we’ve added a new dimension of entertainment with this year’s band, The Funky Hippeez.”

A leading disco tribute act, the Funky Hippeez are a live ‘70s Retro Revue. Their performance comes complete with elaborate costumes and antics reminiscent of the late ‘70s disco era. The show is a fast paced, non-stop ride through everyone’s favorite K-Tel disco hits. They’ve played at the Staples Center for the Lakers Party, hundreds of night clubs, movie premiers and corporate events.

“Don’t miss this party, ‘cause it’s going to be Funkytown at The Biltmore Hotel!” adds Heidemann,

We are Family

“If you’d like to come but don’t have a table of ten filled, please don’t hesitate to get tickets to The Disco Ball. Just send in for your tickets and the Foundation can seat you with families from your children’s school. This party sells out, so don’t wait,” says event advisor Lisa Singelyn.

“Most importantly, the annual Gala is the Educational Foundation’s single largest fundraiser, with last year’s event netting a profit of $375,000,” adds Singelyn. “This money makes a big difference providing smaller class sizes, college counseling, technology instruction and materials, fine arts classes and much more.”

“Disco music and California school funding both peaked in 1978,” says Renee LaBran, LCF Educational Foundation president. “That year saw both the passing of Proposition 13, the property tax rollback that gutted school funding, along with some disco songs better left forgotten. A group of parents can’t bring disco back, but we can raise money to keep our schools tops in the state.”

How Deep is Your Love?

In addition to buying tickets, there are many ways community members can support The Disco Ball. They include:

* Donating items to the silent and live auctions;

* Placing an ad in the tribute book;

* Buying car raffle tickets

* Buying Disco Bauble tickets.

Disco dudes and divas should know that all money spent at The Disco Ball will be credited toward the annual $365 donation per child requested by the LCF Educational Foundation. Whether funds are spent through tickets purchased, ads placed or auction items bought, those supporting the event will get full credit from the LCF Educational Foundation.

“While we’re always happy to accept funds throughout the year, getting credit from the Educational Foundation for going to a terrific party and coming home with great auction items sure is a lot more fun way to contribute,” says LaBran. “However, supporters should know that the IRS might not be quite as generous in its credit for dinner and auction items.”

Knock on Wood

During the night, one lucky Dancing Queen will win a “Disco Bauble.” Sossi, of La Cañada’s Sossi Collection Jewelers, has generously donated a triple diamond drop pendant with a 2.1 carat total weight. Tickets for a chance are $50 each, and the winner need not be present to win.

The chance to win a 2006 Volvo S40 from Rusnak Volvo in Pasadena will be another highlight of The Disco Ball. Each ticket costs $50 and again, the winner doesn’t need to be present.

At the Gala, nine finalist tickets will be chosen from the spinner, then the 10th finalist ticket will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Anyone who would like to purchase tickets for The Disco Ball, the necklace or the car can call Kris Graf at the Educational Foundation office at 952-4268.
