LC Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team Shut Out, 4-0, by Pomona in CIF Playoffs

The La Cañada boys’ varsity soccer team, which shared the Rio Hondo League title with San Marino, was quickly eliminated from postseason play on Feb. 17.

The Spartans were shut out, 4-0, by host Pomona in a CIF Southern Section Division IV first round lower bracket match at the Pomona Unified School District Sports Complex.

La Cañada finished 13-11-2 overall and 6-2-2 in league while Pomona, which took second in the Valley Vista League, improved to 11-10-1 overall and advanced to the second round of play.

The match was scoreless in the first half, but the Red Devils broke up the 0-0 tie with four goals in the second half, including two by Pomona’s star forward Noe Casillas.
