Built in 1928 for Mr. and Mrs. Stanton W. Forsman and their four children, the 2006 Pasadena Showcase House is 12,500 square feet and is on 2.2 acres of land. The house, located in the estate area surrounding the Huntington Library, was designed by Reginald D. Johnson and was featured in Architectural Digest in 1931. The exterior of this Monterey Colonial home features thick walls simulating adobe, overhanging balconies and authentic shutters. The interior is Georgian. Original plans for the house included 11 bedrooms for the Forsmans and their large staff.

In 1941, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Griffith moved into the house with their two children and added an elevator, swimming pool and a second four-car garage. Several families have owned the house since that time and, in the 1980’s, a tennis court was built and, later, a family room was added in an area of the house that once was servants’ quarters.

The Pasadena Showcase House property is not handicap accessible and is not a child-safe venue. Infants and children under 12 will not be admitted. Parking and continuous shuttle service will be available from the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Guests will be shuttled to the 2006 Pasadena Showcase House where they can tour the estate and its gardens, dine al fresco at The Restaurant, and shop at The Marketplace, which contains a variety of boutiques. The gardens, restaurant and marketplace may be visited without a ticket.

The Pasadena Showcase House of Design is one of the largest and oldest projects of its kind in the United States. PSHA, through proceeds from this annual benefit, has donated almost $14 million to youth music and symphonic programs, in addition to presenting its own programs: the Pasadena Showcase House Music Mobile(TM) program, the Pasadena Showcase House Youth Concert and the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition.
