Rio Hondo Prep Tops Flintridge Prep Varsity Softball, 7-1

Host Rio Hondo Prep added to the problems of the Flintridge Prep varsity softball team by handing the Rebels another defeat, 7-1, in Prep League play last Friday.

The Rebels fell to 2-12 overall and to 1-7 in league. Prep hosted Pasadena Mayfield on Tuesday in league, but no results were available at press time.

Prep will conclude its season today (Thursday) with a 4:30 p.m. league contest at Pasadena Poly.

The Kares scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and five in the fourth. The Rebels managed a single run in the sixth inning.

Two of Prep’s five hits were doubles by Kjirsten Speer and Shannon Adelman.

Lydia Kay hurled for the Rebels. She gave up seven runs and eight hits in seven innings and lost the game. Her record fell to 2-12.

Visiting Pasadena Westridge grabbed an early lead against Prep in a league contest last Thursday and never relinquished it.

Westridge scored three runs in the top of the first inning and two more in the third to lead, 5-0. The Rebels cut the lead to 5-3 with three runs in the bottom of the frame. The Tiger added an insurance run in the seventh to win, 6-3.

Kay was the starting pitcher for the Rebels. She went all the way, but lost the game.

Despite being outhit by Prep, 8-4, Westridge still managed to outscore the Rebels. Two of Prep’s hits went for doubles, including one by Kari Van Horn.

In an earlier nonleague game on May 2, host Santa Clarita Golden Valley shut out the Rebels, 13-0.
