Babe Ruth Division

Yankees (Moe) – 12 Dodgers (Knopf) – 2

Red Sox (Borlund) – 8 Angels (Markowitz) – 6

A’s (Gosselin) – 9 Orioles – 2

The A’s broke open a close game with six runs in the seventh to defeat the Orioles. Zane Schwartz had a huge game for the team, knocking in three key runs with two hits and picking up the save with three innings of solid relief.

John Rodli got the win with three fine innings as the starter and had three hits and an RBI. Kyle Gosselin and Alex Rosen each had two hits and an RBI. Sean Mintie and Sean Fitzpatrick added singles and Richie Maloof had a booming two-run double.

Kyle McDonald continued his exceptional defensive work, making nice plays at second and in center. Robert Schneider walked twice and scored. (Coach Gosselin)

The Orioles suffered another tough loss to the A’s. Defensively, Brendan Shoemake made two outstanding double plays demonstrating his baseball expertise. Sam Taylor played exceptionally well at first base and was excellent at pitching.

Giants (Lee) - 9 Red Sox (Borlund) - 7

The Giants won the game in the first two innings with the Red Sox committing five defensive errors to fall behind 8 - 2 after two innings. In the next three innings, the Giants only gave up one run while the Sox rallied for five to close the gap, 9-7, and drop one to the league champs..

The Red Sox were led on offense by Michael McGlashan going 3-for-4 and Erik and Jake Borlund, Paul Lee, and Jack Hale going 1-for-2 by hitting back-to-back doubles in the top of the sixth to close-out a four-run rally before ace reliever Michael Lee came in and closed out the Red Sox.

Steve Shushnar hit a sharp single to center to drive in a run. For the Giants, Peter Chodas went 3-for-4 at the plate and made great defensive plays to bail-out his pitcher in sure scoring situations. All-star outfielder Tim Kim went 2-for-3, and Scott Gray pitched several innings. (Coach Borlund)

Washington Nationals (Kendall) -11 Angels (Markowitz) - 3

The National’s hit the ball hard all night in recording their 10th win of the season. Nick Bobbs had two triples and a single, Brian McGuigan hit a triple, a single, was hit by a pitch, walked, and scored four runs. Michael Chung had three hits, Brice Gumpel had two hits. Adding hits for the Nat’s were David Wyatt, Cole Kendall, Troy Marderosian and Jason Yost. (Coach Kendall)

Giants (Lee) - 9 A’s (Gosselin) - 4

The Giants broke open a close 3-2 game with four runs in the sixth, and went on to defeat the A’s, 9-4. John Rodli again was a soldi starter, allowing just two runs in four innings, and Zane Schwartz and Sean Mintie threw well in relief.

Rodli and Kyle Gosselin both knocked in runs. Rodli with a two-run single, and Gosselin with a two-run double, and Mintie added two singles. Robert Schneider ripped a double and Rosen smacked a single. Sean Fitzpatrick played well at third, and Kyle McDonald continued his bid for utility man of the year with great plays at several different positions. (Coach Gosselin)

Dodgers (Knopf) -11 Orioles (Hanson) - 0

The Dodgers met the Orioles for the Dodgers’ final game of the regular season. With playoffs right around the corner for both teams, the Dodgers played what may have been their best game of the year, besting the Orioles 11-0.

Josh Hanson, playing a number of spots for the Orioles and suffering from multiple injuries he received in an off the field accident, made a spectacular play as he raced from first base to the first base dugout and nabbed a foul ball just in front of the railing.

The Dodgers’ offense was also off and running. Adam Overgaard and Mike Knopf both got on base twice and scored twice. Kevin Suh had two singles and a double, scoring three times. Kevin Hu also scored three times, the last on a double to deep left center for two RBI.

Kevin Oechsel singled and walked. Graeme Rothe singled and went on to score. Riley Donaldson got on base twice and came around to score once. Jamie Dick slammed a shot to left field for a long double to score Rothe in the process.

Four Dodger pitchers held the Orioles in check. Mike Knopf pitched a very efficient first inning and was followed by Jeff Tobias in the second who struck out one and allowed two hits, but no runs. Adam Overgaard pitched the third and continued to impress with his baffling combinations of fast balls and off speed pitches. He had one strikeout and allowed no runs while facing only seven batters.

Oechsel came on to seal the victory in the fifth, facing the minimum three batters, and showing It was also one of the Dodgers’ best games defensively. Third baseman Kevin Hurlbutt took a good throw from Tobias to nab a runner at third to end the first. Mike Knopf made two very nice plays. The first at catcher on a tricky pop foul behind the plate and while he was playing third, on a pop up down the third base tine to end the game. Tobias and Dick split time behind the plate. Yankees (Moe) -17 A’s (Gosselin) - 3

The A’s ran into a Yankee buzz saw and got cut to pieces. Richie Maloof provided the only pitching highlights with innings of relief. He was helped out by a spectacular diving catch of a line drive by shortstop Kyle Gosselin, who then turned it into an inning ending double play.

Gosselin also had a single and RBI and scored a run. John Rodli added a booming RBI double and Maloof had a hit. Rosen played solid catcher and Brian Blumenthal walked, stole two bases and scored. (Coach Gosselin)

A’s pitchers Rodli, Kien Warren and Maloff faced off against Yankee pitchers Taylor Brink and Will Peterman. The Yankee offense was led by Joseph Cadiff who hit a home run deep to the left field wall. The offense was led by Gosselin, Maloof and Rodli. Yankee third basemen Will Peterman and Harry “the mitt” Kightlinger, and Jamie Krasner and John Love made stellar plays on defense. A’s Shortstop Gosselin made a sensational double play. (Coach Moe)

Bronco Division

Orioles (Swanson) - 5 Astros (Higa) - 5

The O’s and Astros deadlocked at 5-5 apiece. For the O’s it was their fourth tie of the season. Adam Lieskovsky saved the day, singling in Daniel Jung in the bottom of the seventh after Jung led off the inning with a deep double, just missing the asphalt. Matt Krugler reached base in all three at bats.

Mitch Reynolds returned to the lineup for the first two innings, making a key catch in the tough PCY left field sun. Defensively, Andrew Burger, Stephen Hernandez and Ryan McAleenan accomplished a double play behind pitcher Will Swanson. (Coach Swanson)

Andrew Park led the Astros with two runs scored on a hit and a walk. J.C. Cooper, Brian Park and Patrick Xu each had a run scored. Anthony Mizrahi and Charles McCarthy chipped in hits and McCarthy made a nice catch on a deep fly to right. (Coach Higa)

Padres (Hanson) -17 Cardinals (Herzer) -16

The Cardinals gave it everything they had in a 17-16 loss to the Padres. Peter Gilmour went 4-for-4 with six RBI, including a single, two-run double and two-run home run to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. He was also outstanding on the mound giving up only two runs.

Standouts were Jake Rubendall with a single and a double. Cole Herzer had a triple and a single with three RBI. Andrew Bartine and two RBI. Alden Geller doubled. George Dupas, Lance Bird and Liwon Lim all had singles.

Defensive standout goes to Zac George who made two ESPN play of the game catches. (Coach Herzer)

The Padres squeaked by the never quitting Cardinals, 17-x 16, in this hard fought barnburner that went down to the wire. The Cards would not quit, nearly pulling out a great comeback in the last inning.

Tyler Horswell had the hottest bat with two RBI. Nick McMenamin was on fire ripping a single and played well at second. Mack Strockis at the plate going 3-for-4 including a mammoth double. Blake Shepherd was awesome at catcher plus going 2-for-3.

The hustling Mario Del Cueto scored twice for the Padres. Chad Nahigian had a huge day at the plate going 3-for-4. Joey Hanson’s, Paynter’s and Carl Canyon’s bats were smoking with six hits between them and eight runs scored. Rhys Newcombe was amazing in his debut and was 2-for-2 with a double at the plate.

Paynter, Canyon and Hanson also fought hard pitching against the Cardinals, The defensive highlight for the Padres came on a truly Major League play with Paynter fielding a grounder and freezing the runner at third, throwing the runner out at first, fielded by Canyon, who then rifled the ball home where Nahigian blocked the plate perfectly and tagged out a sliding Cardinal for an inning ending double play. Dodgers (Georgino) -12 Angels (Cokey) -10

The Dodgers earned their 10th win of a great season against a tough Angels’ team. The boys in blue fell behind in the second when Derek Georgino took the mound, pitched out of a jam and went on to hurl four impressive innings. Zane Bodmer ripping two doubles, Christian Terrile driving a two-RBI double to center and Leo Higley single, double and had three RBIs.

Coleman Monroe doubled in a run and made a clutch play at short in the last inning. Clayton Weiri closed out the game on the mound. Tommy Bartholetti added an RBI and reached base twice. Bennett Sorensen, Erick Lank Gonzalez played good defense. (Coach Georgino)

Orioles (Swanson) - 2 Yankees (Cioffi) - 2

In a game played near flawlessly by both sides, the O’s and Yankees battled to a 2-2 tie. For the second game in a row, Adam Lieskovsky drove in a clutch run, singling in Daniel Jung. Jung was 2-for-2 with a walk. Ryan McAleenan scattered five hits while striking out five in four innings. Andrew Burger pitched the final three, also striking out five.

The Orioles’ pitching performance was matched by the Yanks’ John Hayes and Avery Schwartz. Matt Jones doubled for the Orioles and Mitch Reynolds collected a single. (Coach Swanson)

Nationals (Anderson) - 7 Red Sox (Gartside) - 3

The Sox tried hard, but left their defense at home in a 7-3 loss shortened by back to school night. Randy Gartside hit two home runs, Brendan Greene got on base two times and caught a fly in center. Sean Moriarity also got on base twice. (Coach Gartside)

Angels (Gokey) – 5 Cubs (Powers) – 5

The Angeles had a tough game on their hands against a determined Cubs’ team. The game was finally stopped by the umpire due to darkness in a 5-5 tie.

Mitchell Russell pitched three strong innings (two strikeouts and no hits or runs), Scott Moulin (one strikeout, three unearned runs) and Trevor Roszkos (two strikeouts, one walk and one earned run) each came on in relief for two innings.

The defensive play of the game was an inning ending double play by Roszkos, Ryan Gokey and Mitchell Page with a picked off runner at first base and an attempt to steal home.

Offensively, Patrick Barron, Moulin, Roszkos and Russell all had hits with Will Orr collecting two doubles and scoring three runs. George Jacobs, Page and Nicholas Stoffel all hit the ball hard, but unfortunately right at someone. (Coach Gokey)

Cubs (Powers) – 7 Cardinals (Herzer) – 2

The Cubs played a solid game of baseball, holding the Cards to two runs on three hits behind the pitching of Chad Powers and Alexander Bang. The Cubs got onboard in the third inning when Sam Whitefield scored on the first of two doubles by Powers. Joey Dowling then hit Powers in with a hard hit ball to the shortstop.

In the fourth, Shubham hit the first of his two singles and was driven in by McKay Anderson, Will James, Buck Miller and Shubham all scored in the seventh inning to provide the insurance runs needed for the victory. Dillon Bromley again led the defense with solid plays in center field.

Mets (Singelyn) – 5 Yankees (Cioffi) – 4

The Yankees allowed three unearned runs in the first inning and lost the game. Avery Schwartz and Cole Ramseyer scored two runs apiece. John Hayes struck out seven batters in four innings while Ramseyer struck out four batters in two innings. James Toomarian had a single, but was left on base. Hayes had one RBI as did Nate Eisenberg. Rockies (Slaught) – 12 A’s (Stoner) – 10

The A’s normally steady defense let them down in a 12-10 loss to the Rockies. The A’s kept clawing their way back from deficits, but couldn’t overcome 10 walks and five errors, to lose only their second game of the season.

Kevin Stoner was the offensive player of the game, reaching base and scoring all four times he came to the plate through aggressive base running and heads up play. Tyler Steele took the defensive honors, making two catches in right field.

Bercut Smith tripled and scored, Kyle Herron had two hits, two RBI and scored twice. Matt Bender, Brad Stoner, Garrett Apel, Jordan Johannes and Chris Green all contributed hits. (Coach Stoner)

Dodgers (Georgino) – 8 Padres (Hanson) – 4

The Dodgers fell behind 4-0 against the always dangerous Padres before roaring back with eight straight runs to earn their ninth win.

It was some Dodgers’ momentum changing defense that turned things around. Erick Lankey made two huge catches in right field that robbed the Padres of extra bases.

Leo Higley made a great catch in center and pitched a final clutch 1-2-3 inning. Clayton Weirick threw four terrific shutout innings. Zane Bodmer collected two hits and two RBI. Derek Georgino made five plays from shortstop including one where he charged a grounder, froze an important run at third base and gunned out the batter at first base.

Tommy Bartholetti as the lead-off hitter, reached base three times. Bennett Sorensen back handled a line drive at second base. Andy Gonzalez scored a run. Georgino, Christian Terrile, Lankey and Coleman Monroe all had hits. (Coach Georgino)

The fighting Padres had another tough battle with the mighty Dodgers, losing 8-4. The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Chad Nahigian stole two bases and scored on Blake Shepherd’s RBI single.

The Padres jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning with Mario Del Cueto scoring on a Kevin Paynter single. Carl Canyon followed with a single and scored on a double by Rhys Newcombe. Shepherd had a second RBI single to end the scoring for the Padres.

The Dodgers came back with five runs in the third and never looked back. Joey Hanson pitched well for the Padres, along with Canyon and Paynter. Tyler Horswell had some good at bats and played well in the field. Mack Strockis got a nice single. Andy Paynter was a force for the Padres in right field. (Coach Hanson)

Junior Division

Green Gecko Girls (Galper) – 14 Purple Pirates (Swanson) – 6

The Geckos put it all together in a 14-6 win over the Purple Pirates. Jenna Galper pitched two scoreless innings and was relieved by Julia Blanck and Madelyn Merchant. The defense converted on almost every opportunity.

The offense was led by Kara Lankey and Sarah Borland who each scored three runs. Three Geckos also made two hits, Jenna Galper, Sarah Borland and Madelyn Merchant.

Daisy Beckner added a clutch hit and Grace Canyon made a strong defensive play. The play of the game was an over the shoulder out bounds catch in short right field made by Chelsea Johnson. (Coach Galper)

Angels (Markowitz) – 11 Wahine Surfers (Monroe) – 9

The short-handed Wahine Surfers battled a tough Angels’ team. Caroline Kavich sweated it out behind the plate the entire game, making several great stops and throwing out a base runner. Kavich continued her hitting streak with two triples. Lexi Lorenz received the game ball for the hit of the year, along with another spectacular catch at second. (Coach Monroe)

In the final regular game of the season, the Angels defeated the Wahine Surfers in an exciting and well played game.

Aubri Thompson led the charge with a double, two singles and two runs scored. Emily Fisher exploded with a solid double and India Williams reached base three times and scored. Dana Budzyn hit a blast all the way to the left field wall that resulted in an in-side-the-park homer.

Lindsey Kelleher singled and scored as well as hitting the ball solidly in all three at bats. Niamh “Stix” James hits, Maddy Fisher had a double and two runs scored. Sarah “Slugger” Bartine scored twice.

On defense, Niamh James pitched three innings. She was relieved by Natalie Markowitz for the final three innings. In the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded, she struck out a batter to end the game.

Sparks (Johnson) -15 Green Gecko Girls (Galper) - 5

The Sparks picked a very good time to play their best game of the year. The team jumped on the Green Gecko Girls in this game, scoring seven runs in one inning, and never looking back, to notch a 15-5 victory.

They were led by Anais Stepanian, who pitched three solid innings again the Gecko team. The Sparks played some spectacular defense in the field, with Amanda Johnson, Drew Donaldson, Stepanian and Dana Delaney all making great plays in the field. Stepanian threw out a runner at second base for only the second time this season.

Johnson, Donaldson, and Delaney led the offensive onslaught by each pounding out multiple hits. (Coach Johnson)

Almost Burnt Marshmallows (Yoon) - 10 Purple Pirates (Swanson) - 2

The Marshmallows advance to the second round of playoffs with a 10-2 victory over the Purple Pirates, highlighted by Ashley Kim’s home run in the first inning. Charlie Leddie followed with a walk and was then driven in by a Courtney Wagner shot to the opposite field. Kim posted another RBI with a single in the second.

Kelsey George’s pop up over the shortstop with the bases loaded drove in some runs before the inning ended. Key walks by Storey Tolin, Haley Johnson and Kati Woodhouse in the third clinched the game. Alison and Smith combined for eight strikeouts in three innings. Yoon snagged a pop fly for the only field out of the game, Kylie Brakeman, Shea McCracken and Kati Woodhouse put in strong defense efforts at catcher and second base, respectively. (Coach Yoon)

California Chicks (Musso) - 13 Angels (Markowitz) - 7

The California Chicks got by the hard hitting Angels, 13 - 7. On defense, Shelly Musso and Kendall Sandoval both had nice putouts to Katie Benson at first. Kendall had an RBI single and a booming triple to left field, Blake Dietrich had an RBI double. Benson got a hit and Julia Morreale again wowed the crowd with a line drive single to left field.

Annette Persson knocked in two big runs in the first with a ground out. Brenna Gay was robbed of a base hit to right field on a fantastic play by the Angels right fielder. Maddy “Mo” Mackenzie gave the performance of the night for the Chicks. “Mo” had an RBI double in the first.

Then with the bases loaded in the last inning, Maddy ended a determined Angels’ rally with two huge strikeouts. (Coach Musso)

Mustang-10 Division

Red Sox (Lee) - 9 Pirates (Helbing) - 3

The Red Sox stormed out of the box with five runs in the top of the first and never looked back in a 9-3 victory. This victory was a team effort.

Austin Gartside led the offense with three hits and two runs scored. Kevin DePriest and Grant Owen had two hits and two runs scored. Michael Mead had two hits. Henry Owen had a line single to center field.

Justin Hopkins had his usual solid game catching and added a catch of a line drive at first base to end an inning. Ryan Hobart made a nice stop of a grounder at third and threw the runner out. Dante Orlandini walked. Julian Terrile played good defense in the outfield. (Coach Lee)

A’s (Brown) - 7 White Sox (Williams) - 1

The A’s, behind some fresh arms on the mound, stifled the White Sox, 7-1. Greg Lupica pitched a 1-2-3 first inning, and strong relief pitching was supplied by first-time hurlers Travis Clark and Juan Carrasquero. Brock Hudnut also pitched an inning and turned in an unassisted double play to end the game.

Hudnut also hooked up with Ben Whitefield to nail a runner attempting to steal. Ryan Iseri teamed with first baseman Wills Van Sickle for an out. At the plate, Lupica turned a single into a double. Michael Greenberg knocked in a run with a double and Bryce Collier hit one to left. Whitefield walked twice and stole home for a run. (Coach Brown)

Dodgers (Bradley) - 8 Giants (Fuelling) - 2

Good game (Coach Fuelling)

The Dodgers came out hitting strong against a strong Giants’ team. Eric Kimball was 3-for-3 and started the hitting attack with a home run, his second of the season. Mateus DeFaria had a strong all around game pitching two innings, giving up one run and contributing two hits. Jonah Bodmer and Justin Cohen all had great hits.

In the field, Jonathan Lim had the team’s best defensive play of the year, a great catch in left field. (Coach Bradley)

Giants (Fuelling) – 14 Angeles (Gosselin) – 6

After a sluggish start, the Giants recovered from a four-run deficit to beat the Angeles, 14-6. Solid pitching helped the Giants stay in the game until the offense came alive.

Ryan Martin scored four runs, had three hits and scored three runs. Stephen Docherty scored two runs and Sam Kim doubled down the left field line to lead the comeback.

Great defense by Bryant Lew, Sean Bird and Harold Kast kept the Angeles off the base paths. (Coach Fuelling)

Angels’ pitchers struggled with their command in this loss to the Giants, issuing 14 walks. The only real highlights for the team included Clay Smith singling and scoring, Ryan Gosselin doubling, walking and scoring two runs, George Steckbeck getting some RBI, David Bywater singling in a run and walking twice, Shane Bell doubling and Jackson Spencer adding a base hit. Adam Fazzi also hit the ball hard twice. (Coach Gosselin)

Yankees (Selsor) – 8 White Sox (Williams) – 2

The White Sox lost to the Yankees, but as the game went on, the White Sox got better on defense with Stephen Szot making a great play at first base by catching an over the shoulder fly and then getting back to the bag to get the runner.

Shane Lim risked it all on the bases to score the first run. He was got on base both times at bat, stole bases both times and got scored once while getting stranded the other time.

Phillip Kwak had a strong hit that made it to the pavement for a double. The Yankees proved to be better at the plate. (Coach Williams)

Pirates (Helbing) – 6 A’s (Brown) – 4

The Pirates survived a tough meeting with the A’s, defeating them, 6-4. Joe Mudie shut down the A’s attack by throwing two strong innings. Shaun Haupt, Ryan Helbing, Matthew Van Wyk and Greg Preiss all made great x defensive contributions.

Jacob Yonan was able to provide the scoring with Preiss doubling in the fifth for the winning hit. (Coach Helbing)

Dodgers (Bradley) – 6 Red Sox (Lee) –6

The Red Sox came from behind to tie the Dodgers. Austin Gartside got the game ball for his three-run home run that sparked the comeback. Michael Mead and Henry Rowe each made clutch outfield catches. Grant Owens is thanked for earning Juice It Up smoothies for his entire team. (Coach Lee)

Mustang –9 Division

Pirates (Jacinto) – 15 White Sox (Canyon) – 9

The Pirates started fast by opening up a 10-0 lead after two innings. All Pirates reached base safely. The White Sox rallied, but the Bucs held on to win, 15-9.

Collin Morikawa, Austin Ruiz, Jac Jacinto, Austin Muller, Alex Khalsa and Sage Prescott all had hits with strong defensive display. Austin Muller pitched two solid shut out innings and Sage Prescott had an impressive outing on the mound. Matt Olson handled himself well behind the plate. (Coach Jacinto)

A’s (Heer) – 8 Angels (Cheung) –7

The A’s brought their “A” game against the tough Angels with a couple of two-out rallies in the first and third innings behind some good hitting by Jacob Carter (one RBI), Sam Brown and Thomas Phillips (three RBI). Harley Drange’s patience at the plate was instrumental as he added a hit.

Defensive, Frankie Higgins and Christian Heer pitched well, holding the Angels to three runs with some great fielding behind the plate for Jacob and Harley in the first four innings. (Coach Heer)

A hard fought game that gave the A’s the victory. The A’s jumped out to a 8-3 lead and hung on to win, 8-7. Solid pitching by Jonathan Grace kept the game close for the Angels, only to come up one run short. Great defensive plays by Richie Colburn at third base and Robert O’Brien in the outfield. A’s (Heer) – 9 Angels – 3

In the second game of the doubleheader, the A’s were led offensively by Sam Brown who went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Thomas Phillips who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Charlie DePew added three walks, a run scored and an RBI. Christopher Madsen pitched several innings and struck out three. Thomas, Ryan Newquist and Frankie Higgins each made great plays in the field (Coach Heer)

Angels (Cheung) - 15 Dodgers (Bathke) - 6

In a friendly regular season finale for the Angels, their timely hitting, strong pitching and solid defense led to their 15-6 victory. They jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, only to see it vanish. Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the third, the Angels scored five behind hits by Matthew Gilmour, Kyle Cheung and a double by Richie Colburn.

Scotty Platisa made a great catch in centerfield. Robert O’Brien and James Cornwall played well in the field. Jesse Tolkin reached base twice and Evan Woodford scored several times. (Coach Cheung)

Pirates (Jacinto) - 11 A’s (Heer) - 6

Jax Jacinto started for the Pirates and struck out five A’s in two innings. All Pirate batters reached base in this contest. Collin Morikawa, Austin Ruiz, Jax Jacinto, Matt Olson and Sage Prescott all had hits for the Bucs.

Austin Muller pitched well. Matthew Gorksi came in relief for the 5-6 innings and stopped the A’s. Olson earned the game ball for a key double and stellar base running. (Coach Jacinto)

The A’s started off slow against the Pirates and did their best to fight back to come to within two runs before losing, 11-6. Great play by Ryan Newquist to fire out two runners at home. Thomas Phillips at shortstop and Christopher Madsen at third base combined to halt a threatening Pirates’ rally and Charlie DePew who made a stellar catch in center field to rob a would be multi-base hit.

The offensive was muted behind some strong Pirates’ pitching. The highlight for the A’s was a hard hit double up the middle by Sam Brown. (Coach Heer)

Pirates (Jacinto) - 7 Dodgers (Bathke) - 4

The Pirates held on in another close contest to beat the Dodgers, 7-4. This one started out 3-0 in favor of the Pirates, but the Dodgers came back over the next two innings to take a 4-3 lead.

Then with two out and the bases loaded, the Pirates hit back to back doubles to clear the bases. In the bottom half of the final inning, the Dodgers threatened, only to have a line drive double play end it.

The Dodgers had from hits from Adam Horne and great plays from Eric Bathke in left field who snagged a line shot and Clay Massimino, who caught two pop ups behind the plate. Hitting stars included Tommy Fraher and George Baydian. Grant Haxton missed a home run by three feet with a booming double to center. (Coach Bathke)

The Pirates opened strong against the mighty Dodgers. The Bucs scored three in the first, lead by key hits from Austin Ruiz, Jax Jacinto and Alex Khalsa. Matthew Gorksi started for the Bucs and had another great outing. Jacinto pitched the 3-4 innings holding the D and struck out four.

The Pirates busted this close game open in the top of the fourth with a bases loaded double by Jacinto. Matthew Gorski helped out with a key double play at first base. Matt Olson, Warren Bohannon, Sage Prescott, Collin Morikawa and Jack Archer each reached base safely in this win. (Coach Jacinto)

Pinto Division

Dodgers (Varraveto) - IS White Sox (Gilligan) - 2

The young boys in blue registered their second straight upset with a 15- 2 win over a tough White Sox team. The Dodgers rallied to climb out the cellar in the overall standings and enter the playoffs playing their best baseball of the season.

Leading the Dodgers in this contest was Matt Varraveto with three hits including a home run, triple and also collecting three hits for the Dodgers were Brandon Kuwada, Will Mudie (two triples), and Kyle Mysliviec. Alex Gorski added a home run and three RBI. Mikey Selsor added two hits and three RBI and nearly hit his 10th home run of the year. Selsor also had long drive to right center.

Rounding out the offense for the Dodgers with one hit apiece were Kyle Yasuda, Alexander Soewers and Jacob Barsom. In the field, the Dodgers received solid defensive plays from Selsor, Mudie and Varraveto. Yasuda made his pitching debut and struck out the only batter he faced. (Coach Varraveto)

Rockies (Schulz) – I5 Giants (Hayes) – I0

John Monroe led the Giants’ offense with three hits, including a double and two RBIs. Matthew Sox had two hits including a triple. Harrison Hayes and Ben Spencer each had two hits and drove in a run. Matthew DeVelle, William Borrelli, and Sean Eckerle each got a hit and scored.

Charlie Steckbeck drove in a run with a single in the second inning. Defensively, Eckerle played a strong field and made a great catch for an unassisted double play. William Borrelli made some nice plays at second base. Ben Spencer played well for the Giants and William Borrelli pitched strong in the fifth in relief. (Coach Hayes)

Astros (Browning) - 9 Cardinals (Badaruddin) - 8

The Astros prevailed over the Cardinals in a close game, 9-8. Will McCracken led off the fourth with a triple and scored the winning run. George Orloff, who led the Astros’ attack with three RBI and three hits. McCracken had three hits and Davis Browning, Connor Wells had two hits and turned a double play at pitcher by catching a fly ball and gunning down the runner. (Coach Browning)

Four Cardinals were a perfect 2-for-2 on the game: Bryce (one double), Ryan, Daivon (one double), and Sean (two doubles). Connor also hit doubles. Rijul hit the ball very hard. Ben pitched very well in the fourth, with Adam providing excellent catching and quickly got several hits back in to the infield. Jonathan, with his blazing speed, covered a lot of ground in centerfield and made a nice throw on a ball that was hit to him. (Coach Badaruddin)

Pirates (Eggertsen) - 8 Blue Jays (Welsh) - 5

The Mighty Blue Jays brought their bats to play the Pirates. All but two of the Jays had hits. The outstanding fielding ended some great rallies. The stars were Taylor Hughes who had three hits and pitched two thirds of an inning. Grant Parker hit the ball hard. Ty Burnham also stung the ball. The best performance at the plate was not measured by hits. Newton was stinging the ball tonight. (Coach Welsh)

Rookie Division

Pirates (Eggertsen) – 6 Dodgers (Varraveto) – 4

In a close contest, the Pirates edged the Dodgers, 6-4. The Pirates jumped out to a 5-2 lead and held a furious Dodger’s effort in check to preserve the victory.

The Dodgers were paced by Brandon Kuwasa who had a home run and three RBI. Mikey Selsor added his eighth home run of the year during the fourth inning rally. Matthew Varraveto and Kyle Mysliviec each added two hits.

Kyle Yasuda rounded out the offense with a clutch triple for the Dodgers. In the field, Will Mudie made nice stops in both the outfield and infield. Matt Varraveto also had a fine game in the field. Alex Gorski pitched a flawless fifth inning and contributed some clutch defensive play. (Coach Varraveto)

Dodgers (Varraveto) – 15 Astros (Browning) – 7

In a surprising upset, the Dodgers beat the first place Astros, 15-7. Everything was clicking for the Dodgers as they played well on both the field and at the plate.

The Dodgers collected 10 hits in four innings of play against a very tough Astros’ squad. Leading the Dodgers’ offense were Matt Varraveto with three hits. Shane Garrity, Alex Gorski, Brandon Kuwada, Kyle Mysliviec, Mikey Selsor each had two hits.

Selsor and Yasuda added home runs, including the ninth home run of the year by Mike Selsor. Rounding out the hitting were Alexander Soewers, William Mudie, Scotty Krugler and Jacob Barsom who had one hit each.

Krugler delivered a clutch hit for the Dodgers during the five-run rally in the second inning. In the field, the Dodgers were led by Mudie, Gorski and Barsom who all made solid defensive plays. (Coach Varraveto)

Orioles (Hutchens) – 7 Red Sox (Johnson) – 5

In this tough loss to the Orioles, there were some offensive standouts for the Red Sox. Luke Johnson scored twice with a home run and a double. Runs were scored by Graham Massimino, Brandon Sharman and Trevor Docherty.

Christopher Henry and Docherty both playing the infield, quickly fielded hits to keep runners out of scoring position. Jonathan Stewart pitched in the fourth inning, struck out two and then caught a fly to retire the side. (Coach Johnson)

Chris Larsen had three hits and drove in two runs while Bryan Dohi had two hits and three RBI. Blake Cornell had three hits and played great defense.

Jacob Liss had two key hits and drove in two runs. Jack Webster had two hits and two RBI, plus he pitched the Orioles to victory.

Mr. Hustle, Riley Owen, had one double and Hunter Hutchens pitched well and played great defense. Also performing well were Kevin park, Douglas Paine, Sean Estes and Jack Jones. (Coach Hutchens)

Angels (Kim) – 13 Giants (Hayes) – 6

The Giants had a tough time against the strong defense of the Angels, dropping a 13-6 decision. John Monroe paced the Giants’ offense. William Borrelli, Ben Spencer, Sam Eckerle, Matthew Sox, Charlie Steckbeck and Aidan Phillips each got hits.

Defensively, Eckerle played a solid game at first base. Spencer made some nice plays at shortstop. (Coach Hayes)

The Angels had great game against a very tough Giants’ team. The Angels played outstanding defense and continued to have great offense to defeat the Giants, 13-6.

The Angels rallied with five runs in the first inning, including Ray Kim with his first home run and two RBI. Sam Dorr, David Yoon and Jordan Lee all went 3-for-3. The Angeles played great defense. Ray Kim, David Yoon and Jordan Lee ended the bottom of the first inning 1-2-3 with outstanding catches.

Ray Kim pitched a scoreless two innings with three strikeouts. David Yoon made a double play at first base in the top of the fifth inning to end the game. Play of the game goes to Ray Kim and David Yoon for their outstanding plays. (Coach Kim)

Yankees (Sabourin) – 2 White (Gilligan) – 0

The Yankees played their best defense of the year against the White Sox. Defensive highlights for the Yankees include Jordan Berkey in the outfield who prevented batters from running past first after hitting balls deep into the outfield.

The Yankees used a variety of pitchers to keep their lead in tact in the kid pitch portion of the game. Michael Calmette, Sean Davitt combined as the pitching combination that kept the White Sox from scoring. (Coach Sabourin)

Cubs (Stephens) –15 Blue Jays (Welsh) – 6

In the first game of the season with no strikeouts, the entire Cubs’ team hit the ball well. The highlights on offense were Jason Brown, Jack Temple and Issac Harris who are now not only getting hits, but are hitting the ball consistently and with power. Their determination in practice has paid off.

On defense, everyone played a good game. (Coach Stephens)

The high flying Blue Jays met up with the always great fielding and great hitting Cubs. The Jays were able to plate five runners in the game.

There were hits by Taylor Hughes, Ty Burnham, Nathan Oh, Thomas Welsh and the mighty bat of Josh Moulin. There were a few good fielding plays by Josh Moulin, Nathan Oh, Jared Newton and Andy Rickert who played well in the outfield, getting the ball in as soon as possible. The Cubs’ hitting was too much for the Jays. (Coach Welsh)

Bad News Behrs (Powers) -10 Dirt Devils (Preiss) - 6

Dirt Devils struggled a bit, but they always gave it their best. Today was not indicative of the Dirt Devils that have developed over the season. I credit the coaches who provided a lot of hard work over the season and seeing them turn into terrific rookie softball players and a team as a whole. It has been an honor coaching them. Blue Belle Starz (Bradley) - 7 Golden Retrievers (Witt) - 6

In one of the most exciting finishes of the season, the Blue Belle Starz rallied from a three-run deficit - scoring in the third and fourth to extend their playoff drive with a 7-6 come from behind victory over the Golden Retrievers. Kyla Bradley delivered the clutch hit - a booming double to left field to drive in Samantha Brown with the tying run. Alyssa Stolmack kept the Starz in front by pitching two shut out innings, striking out six in the process. (Coach Bradley)

The Mighty Juicers (Fuller) - 9 Mighty McFlurries (Bender) - 1

The Mighty Juicers played an inspired Mighty McFlurries team in the first round of the playoffs and played their best game of the season. Erin Salmi pitched two great innings and scored a run. Taylor Page got on base three times and scored two runs. DeeDee Logan pitched and scored twice.

Olivia Markowitz had a hit, an RBI and scored once. Maria Caire got on base three times and scored two runs. Caroline Moe had two RBI. Lydia Tavera had two RBI and got on base twice. Lauren Fuller got an RBI. Gabriella Lopez provided the needed spark for the team in the defensive field. (Coach Fuller)

Senior Division

Wild Things (Valencia) - 13 Purple Strikers (Ferri) - 10

The bats came alive for the Verizon Wild Things leading them to a 13-10 victory over the Purple Strikers in the playoff quarterfinals.

Stephanie Bathke lead the way with two home runs, a triple, and four runs scored, and throwing nine strikeouts. Lauren Bruer, Emily Valencia, Payton Parker, and Carlee Kreisel all had key hits to drive in runs and keep the Wild Things on the offensive.

Madison Teodo, and Lauren Karnbee contributed with key walks, sacrifice flies, and plays in the infield. Kate Brown was excellent behind the plate with no steals to home even attempted. (Coach Valencia)

Blue Crew (Cox) - 12 Cherry Bombs (Cornwall) - 11

The Cherry Bombs played their best game of the season, but went down in an blaze of glory as a monumental comeback by the Blue Crew spoiled the eighth seeded Cherry Bombs’ upset bid in the first round of the playoffs.

The Cherry Bombs got off to a great start in the first, then exploded with a two-out, five-hit, six-run rally in the third. A couple more runs in the top of the fifth put the Bombs ahead, but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Crew showed why they came in as the top seed as they got five runs on some great hitting to steal the game in the bottom of the last inning.(Coach Cornwall)

The Gillespie Girls (Warner) - 16 Green Apple Snapple (Trueblood) - 1

The Gillespie Girls’ bats were on fire. Every girl had at least one hit and scored at least one run (Serra Brenner, Illiana Duraz Hanula, Lauren Loadvine, Kendall Millard, Lauren O’Leary, Ali Preiss, Emily Selsor and Olivia Warner) Lauren got two hits just off the outstretched gloves of Gillespie Girls. Lisa Gillespie, cast and all, helped cheer on the team. (Coach Warner)

The Flintridge Finance Company Mighty Daisies played their most balanced game of the year against the Dodgers, running hard and making great plays in the field.

Amy Giboney and Meghan Gay each made solid plays. Hazel Toland and Mia Brower each reacted with cat-like quickness and Sydney Lew made two stellar plays to record outs in the last inning at third base.

The Daisy offense had the consistent bats of Kate Decker, Paige Grande and Mia Brower with three hits each. Hits were also coming off the mighty bats of Rebecca Lein, Breanna Chan, Abby Au, Melissa Klein, Kate Decker and Lew.

Mighty McFlurries (Bender) – 11 Bade News Behrs (Powers) – 5

The Bad News Behrs played a good game, but came up a bit short. Emily Develle pitched a solid two inning, singled and scored for the Behrs.

Kaitlin Powers went 2-for-2 and had two RBI. Kate Schiller added a single and walk to the effort. Laura Fraher scored for the Bears. (Coach Powers)
